RE: Week 33 - ITF - Olympics

I caught a snippit on the news that anyone displaying a flag of a country not participating in the Olympics would be ejected, they added "such as England or Scotland" - So Andy, watch out, you have been warned!

I did a web search and found this - The back of the Beijing tickets contain fine print stating that Chinese laws and regulations prohibit you from carrying certain articles to the Venue. You should not carry flags of countries or regions not participating in the Games.

also found - in 1996 -  a Taiwanese student spectator unfurled the flag of the Republic of China and was ejected by Atlanta police. ...This was possible under American law because the back of the admission ticket contained fine print prohibiting, among other things flags other than those of participating countries, and giving the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games the authority to eject any Spectator who fails to comply with these rules.

I really don't know what unsavoury connection you are making here.  I am sure different circumstances prevailed for we all know America is the Land of the Free and China is an overcensoring Communist dictatorship  smile  wink.gif

I'm pretty sure it's the ever-pragmatic (take that how you like!) IOC that insists on this - expect to see it on the back of the London 2012 tickets as well, and expect the Scots, Welsh, etc to make the fuss to end all fusses about it!

By the way, do we have Livescores for this? confused.gif

The ATP provides LS for Tour and Masters, while the Slams have LS on their own sites, but what about this?

I'm sure there will be livescores somewhere - I think all the Olympic events have live scoring.

Anyway, the draws are out, and my are they BAD. bleh

In singles

Andy has Lu in R1 then potentially Calleri/Ljubicic, Wawrinka, Rafa, Nole, Fed, so if he wants to win a medal, he's going to have to do it the hardest of hard ways!

In the doubles, http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/pdf/original/IO_35061_original.PDF, they start with Nestor (world no. 1) & Niemeyer, then Clement/Llodra or (3) Erlich/Ram ... so they'll deserve a medal if they get to R3.
They're in the same quarter as (8) Davydenko/Andreev and in the same half as (2) Djokovic/Zimonjic.

At least he'll be fresh for the USO.

Draw is out Andy gets Lu from Taipei first up which is pretty decent. He has a tough job as he is in Nadal's qaurter and therefore Djokovic in the semi's should he beat Rafa.
If he win's first round he would most likely play Ljubicic and then Wawrinka.

Clearly I must type quicker to beat Steven wink

I have that problem all the time.

Stinking draw. Surely he must be due a decent one at the USO - Cinci was the only decent one he has had in months.

It's a good draw for Murray until he gets to Nadal in the QF's, which probably will stop him getting a medal, but he can beat Nadal if he plays to his very best.

Lu shouldn't be a problem, and then Calleri or Ljubicic (who's very unlikely to play as he's injured) haven't shown any form to beat him this year, and then he beat Wawrinka in Toronto, despite not playing well, so I think he should be reaching the QF's at the very least.

Nadal though will probably be too tough for him, but we'll have to hope Hewitt can take him out in round 2.

And we'll ignore the doubles draw, as they aren't getting to round 3.... Nestor/Niemeyer and just about beatable... but Erlich/Ram or Clement/Llodra should be too good for them

EDIT: Comments about it being a stinking draw... 3/4 times he'll got one of the top 3 in the world, so it's likely to be a bad draw in that sense... he avoided all the dangerous first round draws, and shouldn't have a problem reaching the QF's, so it can't be that bad.

I meant that it was bad in that he has never beaten Rafa, and he is in Rafa's quarter AGAIN. Rafa is the only person who has beaten him for months.

Yeah, it does seem to always be the case that he's in Rafa's Quarter, but one of these day he is going to beat him, as he'll be due a win against him.

Just realised who the seeds in the doubles draw are, and it doesn't make a lot of sense...

Bryan Brothers, Djoko/Zimonkic, Bhupathi/Paes, and Erlich/Ram made sense, and I can understand Nadal/Robredo as they won Monte Carlo being seeded and even Federer/Wawrinka, but Almagro/Ferrer and Davydenko/Andreev don't make sense.

How can they be seeded above Clement/Llodra, Nestor/Niemeyer, Knowles/Mullings, Damn/Vizner etc... unless they just given them by singles ranking.

It means there are some very strong sections (like the Murray's section), while some weaker ones where not a great doubles team will reach the QF's.

The doubles seeds have been done on singles ranking as well as doubles ranking.

Boggo is currently on a training week, and due to be playing the Bronx Challenger in New York during Olympic week.

Maybe he will qualify for the Olympics in London in 2012  smile
