RE: Wimbledon R2 - Murray v Malisse

I thought Mcenroe summed it up perfectly with his comment about it being a tension free zone. I just hope Andy keeps his focus and we remain tension free for about another 10 days or so.smile

By the way has anybody else noticed what a great job they have done scheduling matches for the Centre Court. I am sure one of their criteria was not having one-sided matches. So far out of 18 matches on Centre Court, only one, Novak v Berrer, did not end in a straight sets victory.

Impressive performance.  Malisse only showed glimpses of his former best self, but still it was a comprehensive job.

Serve in partcular was working well :  67% first serves in and 16 aces.  I think it is a key to his all round game and confidence that he serves well, particularly as his second serve is not the best and on average slower than the vast majority of players. He always has the ability to break service, it's just key that he serves well and is not broken himself, as he can be prone to allowing.

Really enjoyable last couple of games.  Ok, the pressure was off to an extent, but Andy really showed what he can do just goes for it.  Slight anti-climax when I think the crowd were jusr ready to absolutely erupt if he'd just ended with a straight uncontested ace.

Please continue playing really positive, tennis, Andy !

This was always going to happen. He played with Fabrice and had some fun. Today was more ruthless and clinical...Andy serving at 67% first serves in and winning 82% of them. But his returning was really up at 49% of points won.

Haas will go the same way....

Very easy win for Muzza there and a good performance from him as well, but to be honest Malisse played a terrible match and didn't look overly interested out there, and gave Muzza an easy win.

He played a better match today though than against Santoro so he's improving round by round which you are supposed to do, and Haas next up should be another interesting match.

Think Haas may be able to steal a set as his game is perfect for a grass court, but at the same time doesn't seem to enjoy playing on it - it will be a centre court match and it looks like Murray will be on Centre the whole way through.

About Centre having 1 sided matches....... yeah, it has been, and some of the matches that should be on centre haven't been, like Gulbis/Nadal today.

Tomorrow I expect to see Serena/Mauresmo on Centre, probably joined by Ancic/Ferrer and probably Federer again, even though I think Hewitt/Bolelli or Berdych/Verdasco are deserving of show courts

I wouldn't really blame the schedulers particularly,

In the first 2 rounds, they are going to schedule particularly matches of the top seeds and prominent British players, and if any seed is involved they are going to be playing a non seed.  I can't see then putting on 2 non-seeds, which may bring a much closer match, unless for some reason there is very special interest.

2 matches are taken up by the champions' first round matches, which are traditionally on centre court, 2 were Andy Murray matches ( although I would have accepted the 2nd round being on Court 1, and be replaced by Nadal v Gulis which to be fair went to 4 sets ), one wes the Williams v Keothovang match, which was no surprise ( and had a close first set ).  I haven't really seen many particular surprises thoughout the scheduling.

They also can't be helped if they put on one of the top seeds' more interesting matches against a former world no 1, and the no 3 seed loses in 3 straight sets, eg. Safin beating Djokovic.

From 3rd round on, I would expect closer, more interesting matches, on Centre Court, with clashes of seeds or iseed v player who has already won at least 2 matches.

PS :  Just had a look at the matches that have been on Centre Court, and yes some have been very straight forward, but there have been 5 tie-breaks, so have been close to having quite a few additional sets.

Just in case nobody sees it on the other thread - I messed up recording this match. Has anybody recorded it and can sell me a copy - pretty please?
