How can anyone say that this is a hard draw for Murray is beyond me?
Er - nobody is saying it is???
I know people on here aren't, but I've seen plenty of people say that this is a tough draw for Murray, which is complete nonsense.
Blake's draw though is a joke through the first 3 rounds, and if he doesn't reach the round 16 then he should stop playing tennis, because that is the definition of a cakewalk.
Not so sure that Berdych's got a great draw as Verdasco/Kohlschrieber both have a chance to beat him if they play well, and on a windy day Berdych can lose to anyone in the draw. And then in round 4 it will be Ancic/Llodra/Ferrer, and I wouldn't say he a big favourite to beat any of them.
Baghdatis does have Karlovic in round 3, but I maintain the guy doesn't exactly pose a threat in a Grand Slam until he starts getting past round 1 in them - he's done it once in his last 6 slams, and then he lost in the second round to Bjorkman on clay when he did it then. Karlovic has a terrible 5 set record, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even get to Baghdatis.
Lopez or Nalbandian could beat him in the 4th round as well, but that depends on how interested Nalbandian is, as if he's not at all then Dancevic could beat him.... if he is, then he could easily win the tournament
Andy's got a decent draw in my opinion. If he brings his best tennis to the court then he really should have a good chance to reach his first grand slam quarter final. What a match that could be against Rafa (don't see it being a different opponent) on centre court. Can't see Andy getting any further though as Rafa looked in fantastic form in the Queens final and i would be very surprised if he doesn't make the final again and maybe this year take the title. Andy has to meet one of the big ones eventually in the draw and with fed and Novak in the other half this ain't bad for a grand slam. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make the second week though and at least the last 16 as questions will be asked as usual. Murray says he's ready. Well now we will see. Will we end up wishing Tim was still there in the semi's?
GO MUZZA---------- LET THE RACKET DO SOME MAGIC AND WE CAN ALL DREAM AND SCREAM AT THE TV ON THE EDGE OF OUR SEATS.
I see Tim has had things to say about our players again this week. People don't like it but i can kinda see his point at times. They do work hard but sometimes you wonder whether they have that burning desire to win at all costs and die out there on the court. Tim was talented yes but i felt he always went that little extra mile in some of his matches that he was losing and turned around somehow. That came from within i feel and wasn't taught. An example has to be Bloomfield losing his final round quali last week. I think he had broken and had a match point and went on to lose. Maybe unlucky you can say but really he should have won. That was so disappointing in the end. How determined was he if that isn't a cruel thing to ask? I'm sure he was but that die at all costs that Tim had, i doubt it.
First round results seem to confirm retrospectively that Andy's draw was not the best of the 9-12 seeds.
Blake has lost his top four seed for the QF and Baghdatis has now got a much "easier" path to the QF due to FD's predictions coming true.
A bit ominous for Andy that Gasquet and Haas had good 1st round wins. I'm not sure I fancy Andy's chances against Gasquet if the Frenchman starts regaining some form at last.
In my mind, I effectively considered Roddick to be the "top 4" player in the Davydenko quarter ( Davydenko has now I believe been knocked out in the 1st round in 5 out of 7 yeatrs ), and never really made Davydenko a consideration.
And Blake still has Roddick as potential opponent in the last 16.
Yes, Gasquet, particularly, apparently played very well, but he is another one whose form can vary from day to day. His overall form this year is not good.
I still maintain that Andy has a good draw, although as we NOW stand, perhaps Baghdatis has the best looking draw of the seeds 9 -12 for potentially reaching the quarter finals.
But Andy certainly has a draw that, as I said before, he can have no complaints about.
Haas beat Canas, but for a set looked very average, and almost blew a *5-0 lead in the third against a man struggling with injury, and while Robredo played well against Vliegen, I don't think for a slightest moment he's a threat against Murray on grass.
Gasquet though.... that performance against Fish was excellent and IF he keeps playing like that, he'd be a favourite against Murray (and as it's Grosjean then Calleri/Simon, he can't not make the 4th round)
Quarters 2 and 3 happen now to be joke quarters with all that has happened.... just a shame that Murray is in quarter 4.
Two QF's will be Federer/Hewitt vs. Ancic/Berdych/Ferrer and Nadal/Stepanek vs. Murray/Gasquet/Haas.... while the other 2 are anyone's guess, but Baghdatis/Safin and Tursunov/Cilic would be my guesses at the moment.
