Final
Benedict CALNAN (GBR) defeated Marc WESTGATE (GBR) 6-1 6-1
Calnan may be quite good, you know. Being born on the last day of 1991, he's still sort of young and this is his second straight Junior title after a G5 he won on Danish clay last week.
I see that Oliver Golding made his entrance onto the ITF rankings by winning the doubles with Nick Jones. They beat Ben Davis and James Turbervill in the final 6-2 3-6 6-3.
I would normally point out at this stage that this makes Oliver the first 1993 born British boy to win an ITF tournament. However over in the Corfu Cup G5, another two Goldings, Alex and Myles David, also won the doubles. Thus Myles also achieves the feat of scoring his first points by winning a tournament and is also a '93 boy.
To complete a good week for the junior boys, Lewis Burton won the Finland G5 singles while Faris Akhazzan has made the final of the G4 in Thailand.
Sophie Watts [232/1994] beat Katie Millar [403/1995] by 63 61. Safiyyah Azeez [163/1994] beat Katy Dunne [126/1995] by 16 61 62.
Evan Hoyt [206/1995] beat Benjamin Lott [248/1994] by 57 63 60. Matthew Kirby [Unr/1994] beat Billy Harris [261/1995] by 62 61.
Watts won the final by 64 61. Kirby won by 63 62.
Billy Harris and Chris Pearce (both 1995 born) won the doubles title for the boys. Alexandra Clark and and Alice Hopkins (both 1994) born won the doubles title for the girls.
Good on Sophie Watts- what a week she has had. I have to say that the result surprises me a bit and it will be interesting to see how she gets on in the Summer tournaments. Anyone know how she has improved so much?
