RE: Week 30 - ATP Masters - Toronto

Rubbish draw in the doubles for the Murrays.

I'd hope that Andy would be firing on all six against the qualifier and isn't still in holiday mode.
He hasn't played since July 2nd at Wimbledon so he's in need of some court time and 2 or 3 rounds at Toronto would do nicely!!!
4 or 5 rounds at Toronto would be even better......

I guess the fact that the Murrays are doubling together means Jamie and Max have split up, or are they just having a break?

Welcome to the board Daisy.

Warm up for Olympics. I don't know if they have split but it shouldn't necessarily be the case as Max isn't here.

I'm glad Jamie and Andy are playing an event together before the Olympics, but it's weird that it comes at a Masters, meaning that Jamie now has almost no chance of going to the Masters Cup.

Murray and Mirnyi couldn't have played here together anyway, as they wouldn't have made the cut, so Jamie would have ended up playing with Andy anyway, even if they weren't preparing for the Olympic games.

I'd guess the cut would be similar next week as well, so Murray/Mirnyi wouldn't be able to play doubles at these Masters Series events, even if they wanted to team up with each other.

Max is on Davis Cup duty so not available, I believe.

He is this weekend, but would be free to play next week if he wanted.

Doesn't look like they will be able to get any play in today with the rain, so we are no-nearer to knowing who Murray could play in round 2 yet, so it will probably be a Wednesday start for Murray.

The Kazakh, Andrey Golubev, or ToJo, who's in as a lucky loser (he was the top seed in qualies, but was beaten in the FQR by Jonas Björkman.  Just for the record, Baggy's out (injured?) & his place in the draw has been taken by another qualifier, Jesse Levine (USA).

The Murray's first match v Gasquet/Mahut is on Court 3 'not before 4 pm'.

And the match will be third on Court 1 today, with play in the first, Cilic vs Dlouhy, kicking off at 16.00 BST.

*  I included the reference to Baggy, as he was in Andy's half of the draw, albeit the other quarter.

Maybe in round 2, but probably not to begin with, as Gasquet and Mahut lost to Andy Murray and Vallerdu at Queens, and so surely with Jamie being a lot better than Vallerdu, they should win this match as well.

And if they don't win... what would this say about Jamie Murray's ability compared to Andy's mate?

Yes, and while it would be good for Jamie, I'm not sure Andy will particularly be looking for more than 2 doubles matches, given he only starts his singles on Wednesday.

ToJo in Round 2 tomorrow it is:  he's just beaten Golubev 7-6(4) 6-1.

Murray's doubles match on the scoreboard now, so it's just about to begin.
