RE: Week 24 - ATP - Queen's Club - R3: Murray versus Gulbis (LAT)

First set Gulbis !

I missed almost all the first set, but I did see Andy's interview with Rudsedski before the start.

He said the important thing today would be to keep the ball in play as Gulbis can miss a lot of shots.  That immediately worried me that we were in for "passive Murray" like v Tsonga and some others when he gets in a mindset that he doesn't really need to attack.  And from the bits I did see, Gulbis was getting in first real atacking shot most times.

For those watching match, has there been too much "passive Murray" in first set ?

I wish he could convince himself more that he has the ability to take the game to any opponent, just believe in this approach more.

Practice at winning on grass would come in handier.

No, not watching it Johm, but your commentary sounds so believable (if perhaps a little harsh), I probably don't need to!

I agree with indiana, he needs to believe he can take the game to anyone, because good things always happen when he does that and bad things nearly always happen when he doesn't. I wonder, though, if the slippery courts are adding to the temptation not to play too close to the net.

I could cope with most anything if that a**e Castle wasn't commentating.
A one month bout of tonsillitis is top of my wishlist for him

Castle wouldn't be so bad if he didn't fancy the a**e off himself. Then again, if he didn't, he'd be a completely different person ...

Andy does well to save two bps with an ace and a big fh. Another ace gets him to adv and a brilliant drop shot winner gives him the game. Desperately poor start to that game with a routine bh into the net, a poor drop and a weak 2nd serve punished by a big return as Gulbis got to 15-40.

Better returning from Andy, he seems to be reading the serve a lot better now, as he breaks again.

Sorry, the three of us who wished to discuss Andrew Castle who is commentating on the match which this thread is for will all run along and start our own thread because you don't want us to mention it in here.

Who put you in charge anyway?
