I'm pretty sure that the rule has been the same for the men as for the women at Grand Slams. You can play both Nottingham qualifying and Wimbledon qualifying, but if you are still in the former when the draw for the latter takes place (Sunday pm) then you are automatically removed. That is why Nottingham qualies have generally been fairly weak - anyone qualifying for the Nottingham main draw could not play Wimbledon qualies. in other grand slams the draws are done a day or two later, with the main draws from the concurrent event often starting on Sunday - so you can lose your first round match and still make the grand slam qualies.
I've always been interested in the 'to play or not to play' before Slam qualies debate.
I've read here that you get paid good money at Slam qualies and I think that's true. But can anyone give me the exact figures? I tried back calculating a bit using the ATP site but it seems that all first round losers at Wimbly - normal, qualifier or Lucky Loser - got the same money last year!
The incentive for money is obviously something that influences players at Challenger level (and rightly so). If you qualify for Wimbly, which many of our players are capable of, you get a cool 10K pounds for it. Funnily enough, even a quarters appearence at Nottingham will get you 'only' 7.3K and a first round loss, which is likely for our players, gets you 2.75K.
Then there are points - if you win a round at Wimbly qualies (which all our players are capable of), you get 4 points, which is almost close to qualifying for Nottingham that gets you 5. Of course, you could get 8 or 20 by progressing more!
All said, assuming that if you qualify for Nottingham then you can't do Wimbly, and that the money you get at Slam qualies is decent (and exists in the first place), I think it's smarter to give Nottingham a miss and go for Wimbly. More risks, but more chances of return, too. And there's hardly any guarantee that Nottingham qualies will be a cakewalk - Anderson, Dancevic, Reynolds etc. could easily be there.
there is definately good money at slam qualies. i think its £1625 for 1st rd, then £3250 2nd and £6500 for 3rd rd at wimby so i think it makes financial sense to play slam qualies.

When I spoke to Jonny he didnt think he was going to be playing the final.
Doesn't look as though he's expected to - from the Wimbledon site:

Men's Singles: Jonathan Marray def. Chris Eaton (1) 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) Daniel Cox (4) def. Morgan Phillips 6-3, 6-3
You can play both Nottingham qualifying and Wimbledon qualifying -you just can't play in 2 main draws in the same week, so you can play both tournaments if you can make it at both.
I guess that will be a problem for a lot of the Brits as they will be scared of doing too well in Nottingham as they would then have a problem playing at Wimbledon which has to be their priority.
Well done to Jonny and Coxy for getting the WC's though and hope they make good use of it in the qualifying and win a round or two. Jonny could qualify if he gets a nice draw, and this will be a good test to see what level Coxy is at and whether he can do as well/better than Evans did this week
Interesting that another impact of the lack of wild cards for wimbledon is that we will have a much smaller and lower quality entry in Nottingham qualies.
Last year we had two qualifiers (Baker and Goodall) making a fairly decent entry in Nottingham first round, this year none of the players you would expect could qualify bar Baker and Boggo might be expected to enter Nottingham.
I think that given the number of games you would have to play in a short period of time to enter Nottingham qualies, main draw and wimby qualies most of the players would be worried about overdoing it before wimby.
Certainly Jonny wont be entering Nottingham as he was struggling with soreness in the calf after yesterday's win, and is resting for a couple of days before starting to prepare for wimby, and I htink that might be the same for some of the others.
Jonny very upbeat at the moment, and if he stays fit, could be one to watch in qualies. Paul Hutchins and Paul Annacone both watched his game and saw him after and said how well he'd done and well done and so on, so I think he was pleased with their input.
