Shame. But now he has the option of doing Nottingham qualies in case he wants to, which is what I wanted him to do in the first place.
Boys' Finals:
Henrique Cunha [7/1810] of Brazil vs. Marcus Willis [20/1085]
So no upsets and we have the final which was most likely. Willis and Cunha have met thrice, with Cunha winning all of them. But the scorelines were close - 4-6 6-3 7-6(3), 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3 and 6-3 7-5 respectively on surfaces which favoured Cunha more. The first one was on the slow hard courts of Miami, I have no idea about what the hard court was like in Mexico for the second one and the third one was on clay. Marcus has a good shot at it if he plays like he did against Kontinen, who I think is more dangerous than Cunha on grass.
I hope that Willis will take it and that should give him a good chance of getting a qualies WC at Wimbly unless they have been decided already. Of course, it all depends on whether he and his coaches want to ask for it.
Is it played tomorrow or on Sunday? Also, is there a chance they'll show it on TV?
Well, it's not on tomorrow's OOP, so it must be on Sunday. Is anybody going on Sunday for the men's final (or specifically for the Junior final, which is unlikely for most!)?
I don't think that there's much between them resultswise (which of course doesn't tell the story as gamestyles determine the outcome) but in these cases it is wise to back your favourite. Willis in two tight sets!
6-5 to Cunha and 30-30 on Willis serve. 30-30 2nd serve 30-40 set point 40-40 saved adv Cunha, Set point deuce, Saved Adv Willis deuce Adv Cunha, Set Point
Set Cunha, Willis is goin to be a little deflated after that one.
