Girls: Eastbourne Invitational - 2008.

Hello and welcome to British tennis's best kept secret. icon_wave_slow.gif

As you may (or probably may not) know, we have a Junior tournament at Eastbourne that is run along with the women's one. Of course, in keeping with the LTA's fine treatment of the fans, it's not possible to find out who's playing here, what's the format, what the draw looks like and what the results are, in whole, unless one of the players is a part of your family.

Anyway, last year I found a way to get some info regarding the field. The ITF Grand Slam Development Fund always sends players to this tournament and the page on the ITF site mentions the following players -

Jessy Rompies
Nadia Lalami
Elena Bogdan
Noppawan Lertcheewakarn

(In case you're curious about what this Fund is, it's just a way to ensure that players from countries which don't have a lot of cash to throw around also get to play high quality tennis. You just need to commit yourself to a certain number of Junior tourneys and the ITF pays for your expenses.)

I don't know which British players will be here, though. Any info will be appreciated!

They play a super tiebreak instead of a third set.

so...
I was trying to watch every match so didn't take much notice of final scores.

Robson won both matches pretty easy 61 62 and against rompies 61 63
Windley won against Bogdan in 2 and ret against Brooks heat stroke in the 2nd
heather was beaten by jade in 2 but played well then won against Olick 64 62
Jade's 2nd match against the american (61 1") 62 57 super tie 11 9

exciting match and last of the day everyone staying to watch.

Thanks! Good to see Laura winning so convincingly in both her matches. It would be interesting to see a Jade/Laura final.
Heather did well to beat Orlik and so easily too!
Windley, what a great win over the Roland Garros finalist! Hope she's ok though!
Great win for Jade over Vandeweghe!

No updates yet. I hate the new LTA website. In the old site they would of updated results for these types of tournaments!

Didn't go yesterday. Work!! But a friend told me he saw Robson win against Bodgan 63 64. Both big serving left handers.
Watson lost to the Lertcheewalarn in a super tiebreak.
Vandeweghe and Olick's match was a good one. He thinks Olick won in the end.
Robson won against Windley. Last match he caught the super tiebreak. Couldn't beleive they were juniors. High quality tennis.

Thanks. Laura still performing well! Maybe grass will turn out to be a good surface for her! Tough loss for Heather against a good player. Also good to see that Jade's heat stroke wasn't serious as she played and competed well against Laura!

Robson is class - no doubt about it - but has been devoted to tennis from a very young age. Good example of what you have to do - and sacrifice - to succeed in this sport. Wish her luck
