RE: Girls: European Summer Cups - 2008.

Mervatron, Laura is referring to the World Junior Tennis competition. We'll have a fair chance of winning that with her as our number 1 and Jess as our number 2.

Is that the final of this event?

Yes and no! smile.gif

The Summer Cup is a complete event in its own right. But if you finish as one of the top few teams there, you get the chance to play at World Junior Tennis, so it's also a qualifying tourney for WJT.

18s team -

Lereesa Easterbrook
Amanda Carreras
Stephanie Cornish

Reserve - Lisa Whybourn

Looks like 'Cornish' and 'Whybourn' came out of the hat this time. smile.gif

16s team -

Tara Moore
Heather Watson
Jennifer Ren

Reserve - not mentioned.

At least Jennifer got selected. Small mercies...

Lunacy, lunacy...

The 18s team that ended up playing was Vickers, Easterbrook and Amy Askew.

They lost 0-3 to Slovakia in the first round, I'm afraid - http://www.tenniseurope.org/pdf/junior/Summer%20Cups/2008/Results/G18/ZoneB/Day1.pdf

Who exactly is in charge of selecting the teams, I wonder...

The 16s team is playing in Queenswood, by the way. In the opening tie against France, Tara won by 60 76, Heather by 61 62 and then we lost the doubles.

We face Spain now.

At least Amy Askew got selected... I don't agree with her being there, but it should help in the long run.

I think the tie in Queenswood is being played on Har Tru. Probably the only one that's not played on red clay.

It appears we beat Spain 2-1. I think that means we qualify for the next round?

We will be seeded third or fourth in the main draw.

Tara lost her first match.

Jennifer didn't even get a doubles match.

why they bother to take a third player, if he or she is not likely to have a chance to play? Is this just our way? I saw from the draw 3rd players from most of teams either played single or at least doubles. It would be a waste of time to go if players don't get to play!

They should have let her play something. It wouldn't matter if we lost the last tie...

16s main draw -

Serbia beat Belgium by 2-1
GBR beat Romania by 2-1
Poland beat Greece by 3-0
Hungary beat the Netherlands by 3-0

Details of our tie -

Watson beat Ingrid Alexandra Radu by 46 63 62

Serbia next, which will be very tough. Tara vs. Krunic once again.
