RE: RG R2: Andy Murray (GBR) [10] vs José Acasuso (ARG)

jawdrop.gif I really didn't expect this result!! So glad to hear Andy was back to his best, I just hope that he brings the same game to the Almagro match, one I should be able to watch. The Hoose I'm really rather jealous you were courtside, and I didn't expect to ever say that about a clay court match, Brit player or not wink.gif

From Stevens excellent table I see that after R1 win that moved him back to no 11...but what now with the R2 win....cmon Steven get that table updated dont you know that the LTA refer to it for all their info wink.gif

Sorry Drew, GB top 25 updates are a bit slower while the pick 'ems are on, though it'll be fine in week 2 of RG when Surby is on. Something tells me the LTA have their own tables, wouldn't like to guess whose are better though. wink

Using my usual convention, I'd have Andy up to 10th now, because he's got 1555 points, which is closer to current 10th than current 11th. However, if Stani wins his R2 match, 11th is still Andy's best possible finish without winning another match, so I've left it at 11 for now. He really needs another win to be likely to end up in the top 10. If only he could play as brilliantly as today again! smile

I must admit to feeling rather smug last night, as I only decided to go on the spur of the moment at 5pm "after" work.

And it only cost 10 euro smile ... I paid 17 euro to watch a Boggo qualifying match bleh

Reading back through all the 'suggestions' on where Andy could up his game, it strikes me you guys got it just right.

Don't stick on the baseline, more attacking game, less moonballs and drop shots (sigh).

Strikes me you could do online coaching for Andy as a group !

Well according to my spreadsheet (not completely sure it is accurate as I have had to set it up anew after my holidays) Andy is sitting at 11, with Stan Wawrinka 20 points ahead of him even if he loses his match today - and he is 2 sets to 0 up at the rain delay, so I don't see Andy into the top 10 unless he goes one round further than Stan. And even then, there are several behind him who with a good run, in such a high-scoring tournament, could overtake - I'm afraid I haven't time to work out all the permutations.

So I'm looking hopefully towards the grass season for Andy to get back in the top 10.

Edit - just realised that if Andy can beat Almagro he should pass Gasquet and be in the top 10 regardless of Wawrinka - with again the proviso that if he doesn't, others can overtake if they have a really good run.

Saw the Match. Really enjoyed the way Andy played. I thought he would struggle. Never know, he might sneek past Almagro.

On the where he could end up front I don't have a spreadsheet like you smart folk but my rough workings out had him passing Gasquet with another win due to Gasquet getting to 2nd round last year. Sadly he'll have to pretty well to get much more because everyone else around him did nothing last year like Wawrinka, Blake even Gasquet to an extent with ony 2nd round last year. At first glance with Andy missing last year I thought there would be loads around him dropping points but doesn;t seem that way.
