Laura's opponent in the final Lertcheewakarn is 16 years old. She is junior number 5 and has a senior ranking of 489 having won a $25K at the end of April.
Rae / Curtis have won the first set in their quarter final 6-4. Rae has a big serve and Curtis has great touch at the net. Which means the fact that Curtis serves first is strange.
Tabakova looked a dreadful player for the first set, but I have to admit I'd love to see her in the senior game if she keeps pulling the antics she did in the second set as it would just piss so many of the players off.
Another good performance from Robson, but she did lose concentration at the start of the 2nd set, and still has this annoying habit of not following into net after a short ball when she'd have an easy put away and instead going back to the baseline (and given that Pat Cash has worked on volleys with her, it can't be that she doesn't have the technique)
Has to cut down on the double faults, but as long as he hits the aces and the unreturnables like she did today, she won't lose many service games on grass - hope she wins the final, and can't wait to hear the commentators have to pronounce her opponent.
Good win for Jade 'n Jocelyn as well, and they looked in trouble in the second set as they had to save a set point, but look a good combination with Jocelyn's power game and good net game, and the touch of Jade working well with it (a bit like Clement/Llodra with the totally different styles of play that make a great doubles team).... they're in the toughest half of the draw though so I'm not sure they'll make the final.
Kontinen beating Tomic isn't a huge surprise for me as I've seen Kontinen play and it's always going to be tough to beat him on grass, as he's a huge server, serve/volleys off everything, and has great touch at the net with his volleys, so grass suits him well... and today he served ridicoulsy well and Tomic just couldn't get any good returns in play
It's an interesting paring putting together 5ft 4in Curtis and 6ft 2in Rae but it does seem to work. It's hard to get it past Rae at the net and Curtis seems good at running anything down on the baseline.
Last 10-15 minutes of tonights five live programme focused on Laura
Did an interview with her and also someone at the LTA. Most interesting thing was that she is planning on doing some $25k's over the latter part of the summer
Laura is second match on court 1 following an Invitation doubles featuring Mansour Bahrami (2pm start) so I hope she can cope with a big arena/crowd. The scheduling is clearly designed so that BBC1/2 can cut to her after the Womens Singles final, during the early stages of the Mens Doubles.
Court 2 (12 noon start) 2. Polona Hercog (SLO)[6]/Jessica Moore (AUS)[6] v. Jade Curtis (GBR)/Jocelyn Rae (GBR)
