RE: Boys & Girls: ITF Juniors - Roehampton - ITF Grade 1 - 2008.

I think that Cox, Evans and Smethurst should quit, rest shouldn't. Willis is more than good enough to win Futures matches (has taken sets off De Bakker and Klizan) but he's newer to tennis than most, so probably needs it.

Cox and Evo are too good for Juniors at the moment, and what's more, they somehow manage to underperform. Smethurst's problem is that he's not very good on clay (although he did brilliantly at RG) and almost everything in Europe is played on clay. It's something that can't be helped... he's way too underranked because of this bias.

I'm glad that Broady plays Rus early on. This event is meaningless for her, and the only way to gain from this is to play and defeat some big name like Rus, Vandeweghe or Oudin.

Bad draw for Tara. cry.gif

Weird loss for Marcus there but nevermind as he'll be fresh next week. Gaio has all the luck - first he got a WC and I don't know how, then he drew a plum (no offence to Jordan and I'm sure he'll improve a lot with time as he is young). furious.gif Good to see Pauffers take the seed out and Chaudry is starting to show sparks of promise (it's high time).

Loving Coxy's win over Chase, who has won a 10K recently. The title's there to be taken for him... and if he doesn't, it doesn't matter. Win-win!

Tough matches for Heather, Naomi, Chaudry, Marsa, Knights and Pauffley. 50-50 matches for La Robson and Hodgson (if he plays like he has been playing) and very winnable ones for Cox, Smethurst and Konta.

i dont think that saying they are too good for juniors is right.. as all you have to do is look at their results no one is doubting that they are very talented and could have a good future but why waste the oppurtunity of playing all these matches at a high level compared to winning a match every other week,, or having a good run every month why not mix them both up

Well, most top players quit Juniors when they turn 17. All of the top 1990 born players in the world are playing Futures and Challengers full time.

Plus Cox, Evans and Smethurst underperform badly in Juniors for no reason at all, which is weird!

Anyway, it's never too late to start if you have the hunger. Roddick started playing men's tennis very late (at around 18) compared to people like Gasquet but look at the difference between them now!

Both can make the semis.

Cox plays Pauffers. Smethy plays Matt Reid [ranked 32] of Australia. Smethy beat Reid at Roland Garros, so should be the favourite here. That said, Reid must be quite good since he beat Yuki Bhambri in the first round here and Bhambri is a class apart from most in the field in terms of results.
