rofl.gif Okay, I hadn't thought of that.

And also, it is more or less sensible to play juniors because most top ATP players were good at juniors (converse is of course not true). Not necessarily world beaters, but most have been one of the twenty or thirty best players from their year at some point of their lives.

Anyway, good luck in the doubles and hopefully he'll get some points from that.

The boys won the doubles title without dropping a set, I see! smile.gif Congrats to them as it'll raise their rankings by a decent amount.

I shall be cheering on Kyria Dunford. I sit next to a friend of her parents at work. She first mentioned her a couple of years ago and I've followed her LTA u12 and u14 ranking ever since but this is the first time I've seen a link to a tournament with her in from this site. Here's hoping it's the first of many :)

Do we have a link to international U14 rankings?

That's great. smile.gif

There's no international ranking system for 14s, but continental ones. Link to European rankings -

Congrats on winning her second TE title and this sets her up nicely for next year.

David Hodgetts (1995) beat Tim Prossor (1994 born) by 3-6 7-5 6-4 in the boys' final.

In a year with no particular standout talent for british girls, Katu Dunne seems to be pulling away slightly from the other '95 girls. Anisha Rahman is another one to watch.

Can anyone explain why the the 94s are playing in this tournament - surely they should be concentrating on 16s ranking points now. Or, so they get funding if they get their ETA ranking upto a certain level? The Watts seem to be playing everywhere - anyone seen them play. When I last saw them they didnt seem to have, shall we say, the best movement i have seen on a tennis court....

Not 16 and under but 18 and under. The 16s tour (especially for the girls) is totally pointless as it's composed mostly of people with too much money too spend but not real talent. Almost all top female players play ITFs straight after 14s.

I agree with you that's probably because of funding. I guess that when you're talking to a private sponsor, "my daughter is ranked 45 in Europe in 14s" sounds far better than "my daughter is ranked 700 in the world in Juniors", although the latter is a better achievement!

Also, LTA funding depends totally on your ranking in your age group unless you're one of the elite players. There's a funding matrix somewhere which gives how much you get - trying to find it now...

Hoyt is playing some great tennis. Through to the quarters after beating the 5th seed.
Katy Dunne is through to the quarters as well.

Here's where you can get the details about funding - http://www.lta.org.uk/Articles/Players/Funding/
