If he's number 11 on Monday then he should manage to avoid the 12-16 seeding which would be a blessing. (though I'm not entirely clued up on how it works at grand slam level).
Whilst Nadal was on song today, Andy was nowhere near his best. Flashes of glory meant he wasn't at his worst either, but until he gets back the confidence and brilliance that we know and love he's going to struggle. Andy always plays more agressively when he's on form, but to be on form he has to win matches and to do that he needs to play more agressively, and it all amounts to a confusing cycle that I can't see being broken. Of course, he could suddenly turn it on at the next match leaving all our frustrations in the dust...here's hoping!!

To look at a thing is quite different from seeing a thing and one does not see anything until one sees its beauty
I only saw the end of the 1st set and the first 4 games of the 2nd. I was amazed to see his 1st serve % was 70% for the 1st set, but when Nadal served a sloppy game and got broken at the start of the 2nd Andy couldnt manage more than 1 or maybe 2 first serves out of 10 in his first two service games in the second set. That was such a waste! Some of Andy's shot selection in those early games in the 2nd set seemed a bit strange as well.
Nadal's level seemed to drop and Andy seemed determined to drop his level further!
On the other hand he's on the verge of the top 10 again - we should be grateful since apart from Djokovic a lot of the other promising youngsters have fallen away recently.
Tactics weren't too bad. Andy was certainly trying to make things happen most of the time but his execution was shocking, especially on the easiest of shots, and against Nadal he just couldn't afford to smash simple put aways into the net, fire straightforward forehands wide with the court open, volley straight back to his opponent and so on.
There was enough penetration on view to suggest that Andy could become a good player on clay but his concentration is abysmal and he must have gifted Nadal 15 points with careless errors. Also worth noting that the forehand was shocking in the first set, something like 10 unforced errors and no winners in that set, though he did finally start to hit some forehand winners in the second. Double handed backhand crosscourt looked like a decent weapon and even the serve had its moments though far too many were hit at medium pace rather than flat out.
For all his talent, Andy is a very careless tennis player, he gives away so many points with ridiculous shot selection and a failure to execute relatively simple shots. Ask him to hit a low percentage passing shot on the run and he can do it more often than not. But a straightforward volley into the open space, an aggressive forehand off a weak reply, and the chances are that it will sail wide or crash into the net.
Anyway, I'm glad he did at least try to attack some of the time. In future against Nadal he'll have to take the initiative even more if he is to have any chance of beating Rafa as Nadal rarely gives you anything for free.
