Oh my God!

Robson thumped Holland by 2 and 0. jawdrop.gif
Konta won by 61 36 12-10.

From Tennisforum. My drawsheets don't even show the quarters results!

When was the last time two British girls played in a G1 final??

In case you haven't noticed, both of them are Brits with Australian roots.

Who was the last Brit (female, that is, it would be Smethurst for the boys) to win a Grade 1 title, by the way? Has not happened for at least six or seven years, I'm sure.

Jane O'Donaghue won a grade 1 in japan around 2000/2001.

Glad both have decided to play for the UK. Looks like Robson has been raised in the UK whilst Konta is a more recent resident.

Konta seems to be having the kind of results that Naomi Cavaday was having at the same age in juniors. Lets see what she does in the junior grandslams coming up.

Laura is looking like a great player in the making.

Wow... 2000 is a long way back.

By the way, Konta and Robson both train at the same place (Bisham Abbey) so it could be a good match.

The comparison between Konta and Cavaday seems fair, I think. Cavaday qualified and won a 10K at the age of 16, too!

Konta needs to play more women's tournaments, though. I hope that Wimbledon Juniors will be her last, and maybe the US Open at the worst.

I think she should play all 3 this year. She hasn't played one yet and she still has another year in juniors . She does need to play more ITF's but as her last tournament shows shes alreayd good enough to win 10k's which shows she should be top 500 pretty soon.

Best plan would be after wimbledon to play the home 10ks to get a ranking, then US open juniors then mix 10ks/25ks and then Orange Bowl then for 2009 just ITF events. I think top 500 by the end of this year is realistic.

Johanna won 6-4 6-4

Puts her at 14 i think in the ranks and a seed for RG? Hopefully she'll also be seeded for wimbledon.

Only thing to bear in mind re. tournies for Konta is if she can make it to the junior top 10 end of year, she gets some JE places in ITF tournies.

But yes, in principle, if you can win a 10K tournie, you should play junior slams only, and do the rest at senior level.

The women's future is looking bright right now.

Congrats, Jo. clap.gif I like Robson more and would have preferred had she won it, but her time will come next year.

Konta now goes up to 13 in the rankings and Robson becomes the first 1994 girl to get to the top 100 with a ranking of 83. With two big clay tournaments to go still, there's a very good chance that Jo will be inside the top 10 by Roehampton and if she's good on grass, she could easily be top 5 after Wimbledon given that she doesn't defend aything till July.
