Boys & Girls: Bari Cup 2008 - TED & ITF Junior - ITF Grade 5 - 2008.

The two G5s in Turkey on hard courts have been extremely popular amongst the British players in the last few years, and it's no different this time.

Loads of them on the entry lists, including a few of the top young players. See them for yourself since there are too many to type!

The files require MS Excel or Excel Viewer or something similar.

I am both surprised and impressed that Broady (Liam, that is) is playing here, given how young he is. Hopefully he'll be able to get a few points and then he will have a nice base to build on next year.

The only disappointment is George Morgan not being here. I had always thought that he'd play these two tourneys and with a good performance he could claim a WC at Wimbly Juniors. Brother Robert is here, so I hope that George isn't injured or anything?

The younger Ren joins them next week. She can't play this week because of how selective she must be with her tournaments.

Liam qualified and in the second round of the main draw, he was playing someone ranked 600 places higher than him, so it's no surprise that he got an easy 2 and 1 victory. wink.gif

Unfortunately Hannah MM lost in the girls' draw.

Liam next plays Scott Griekspoor, who is 17 years of age and ranked 556. Given that most of his points come from two weeks he spent in Algeria, I think Liam will get an 'upset'. But then again, this is Liam's sixth match of this tournament, so he could be tired.

Unfortunately Liam lost by 4 and 4 but he's through to the doubles semis (with Bettles).

People remaining in the singles quarters -

Manisha Foster [1080] - plays Georgina Garcia Perez of Spain, ranked 1659.
Lucy Brown [1154] - plays our own Taro Keens [1257].

Benjamin Davis [650] - plays Justin Eleveld [204] of the Netherlands.
Greg Goodall [551] - plays Mike Vermeer [811] of Luxembourg.
Ashley Hewitt [771] - plays Scott Griekspoor [556] of the Netherlands.
Robert Morgan [844] - plays our own Scott Sears [543]

I think Morgan should beat Sears.

Lucy Brown won by 3 and 3. She plays Garcia Perez for the title.

Hewitt won by 36 63 63. Goodall lost by 2 and 3 so it is Hewitt vs. Eleveld in the final.

Davis and Hewitt lost in the doubles final.

Both of them lost, Greenleaf is afraid.

Justin ELEVELD (NED) (1) defeated Ashley HEWITT (GBR) (7) 6-4 6-2
Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP) defeated Lucy BROWN (GBR) (10) 7-5 2-6 7-5

I didn't realise that Brown is '93 born. Two finals in one week is a good show, in that case.
