Winning streaks

Jamie Baker's recent winning streak in Texas has had us looking to see which Brit has managed to compile the longest winning streak in ATP/ITF or equaivalent since records began - which I guess means since ITF records began in 1971. This includes DC but may exclude some smaller tournaments from the early years (in fact, Futures only started in 1991 anyway), but it's the only easily available and reliable source.

The top streak for any player who has been checked from start to finish will appear here for future reference - that doesn't mean the list is complete, but it does mean there won't be any need to check through that player's results again.

Clearly this favours players who play below their level, so apologies in advance to Boggo who hasn't dropped down to play a Future in donkey's years.

Matches that count

All matches in ranking events, including qualifying, plus DC, Grand Slam Cup, etc, i.e. every tournament recorded on ITF.

Wins that count

Wins in matches that went the distance or where the opponent retired after it had started.

Wins that don't count

Byes; wins by pre-match withdrawal or default where the player effectively had the day off (this is a test of stamina, after all!) However, losses by pre-match withdrawal or default break a streak.

10 (last to win 2 Challengers in a row?) - Jamie Delgado - 1998 - won Gramado & Belo Horizonte Challengers, beating Gonzo in R1 in one of them

(*) almost managed 14 at top level, in 1998 when he won Tashkent, 2 DC matches v IND, won Basel and won 2 matches in Vienna, but unfortunately he lost to Bjorkman in the Grand Slam Cup in between DC & Basel

(+) rises to 21 if you ignore the previously-stated rules in the first post and hence ignore the match he withdrew before at the end of the 13-match streak detailed below and only count matches where he actually took to the court, since he then won Vale do Lobo Fut then reaching the Loulé Fut SFs

Any advance on these, please let me know and I'll add them.

14 - Anne Keothavong 2001 - 2 10K titles followed by a 25K final.
immediately followed by
11 - Anne Keothavong 2001 - 1 10 K title, 25K qualification and then semi final.

Given she lost the 25K final 7-6(8) in the 3rd she could have had a 26 match streak...

One of the Bergamo wins was a W/O (match not started) - there were two Rets in that streak as well, but they count - and he lost in R1 in Wolfsburg, so that streak was 9. I'm struggling to find the 15 match streak, when was it?

No, he did win Wrexham:

32WBOGDANOVIC v LEE head to head report Martin LEE (GBR) 2-6 6-3 7-6(4)
16WBOGDANOVIC v HEUBERGER head to head report Ivo HEUBERGER (SUI) 6-3 3-0 RET
QFWBOGDANOVIC v KUNITSYN head to head report Igor KUNITSYN (RUS) 6-4 4-6 6-4
SFWBOGDANOVIC v PEQUERY head to head report Jean-Michel PEQUERY (FRA) 7-6(6) 6-2
FRWBOGDANOVIC v ROBERT head to head report Stephane ROBERT (FRA) 6-3 6-2

and Bergamo:

32WBOGDANOVIC v PARMAR head to head report Arvind PARMAR (GBR) 7-6(5) 6-2
16WBOGDANOVIC v CALATRAVA head to head report Alex CALATRAVA (ESP) 6-4 6-4
QFOBOGDANOVIC v PEQUERY head to head report Jean-Michel PEQUERY (FRA) W/O
SFWBOGDANOVIC v SEPPI head to head report Andreas SEPPI (ITA) 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2
FRWBOGDANOVIC v BOLELLI head to head report Simone BOLELLI (ITA) 6-1 3-0 RET

... both in 2006.

I wonder if you're confusing Wrexham with another Welsh Future last year - he lost in the Final of Cardiff after winning in Valencia. That was an 8-streak because the semi in Cardiff was a W/O.

wolf you were thinking of cardiff where he lost the final last year.

i forgot he got a w/o vs Pequrry (but he would have won anyway smile.gif)

the 15 match indoors was just those 2 events and the sunderland from the end of year b4

Oh you mean a winning streak of 15 indoors, interrupted by some outdoor losses?

Not as impressive, but I've just remembered Anne had another 14 match win during her comeback in 2005. 2 10K titles and a 10K final losing to Melanie South.
