hmm - and we seem to be turning into the language pedants club.....
Comes with the territory for me, I'm afraid, Rob. You can't spend years in a profession in which accurate use of language is your stock-in-trade (technical translation + the occasional spot of proof-reading) & expect to be able simply to turn it off & on like a tap when you no longer exercise it! And unless you're one yourself (not to mention a bit of a perfectionist! ), care passionately about the fate of your mother tongue & despair of the atrocities most other people inflict on it because they don't, you can't possibly appreciate just how irritating it is to see common or garden words such as those highlighted on the previous page consistently confused and/or misspelt!
Understood, it affects (effects?) me too, and I'll quite often smile over someone's errors. However, it can make it quite intimidating to other posters. Drew , Wolf and the Count can all, I am sure, stick up for themselves, but newer posters might be put off from posting if they feel their contributions may be picked apart - not just for the content, but also for any grammatical errors.
It's scary enough posting on a board like this one - full of regulars and experts, without that additional fear of ridicule.
I know that's not the spirit it was intended in, but is there a chance that you and Derek could grind your teeth quietly a little bit more?
Very disappointing. Just don't understand why Andy knows how to behave against Federer but doesn't give the same respect to other players or to the spectators. His mum thinks he has grown up - I'm not so sure. Poor.
He certainly doesn't appear to me to have grown up! If, however, this final paragraph from comments on the match by Barry Flatman on the Times site is to be believed, one thing he doesn't do is lack respect for DD:
What Davydenko does have is the scalp of Andy Murray once more, but he has never lost the respect of the British No 1, who has long maintained an admiration for the Russian's indomitable game. "Although people say his game is not the most thrilling to watch and he's not the most charismatic personality, the way he goes about his business is very impressive and to keep his ranking so high with a game like that is very respectable," Murray said. "Once he begins to get comfortable from the baseline, he is really tough to beat. However, it's been a good week and I'm not terribly disappointed with the tournament as a whole. It's nothing to get too down about because it's the first tournament on this hard court outdoor surface in warm conditions, so it's good preparation for Indian Wells and Miami."
* Looks as though we're all more disheartened & dismayed by his lacklustre performance than he himself is! *rolls eyes*
Didn't see the match. But Davydenko really does seem to bring out the worst in Andy. Not at all surprised he lost. Just goes into the match with completely the wrong strategy and then gets frustrated with himself. Top players blow Davydenko off the court, they don't sit deep behind the baseline waiting for him to make an error. Even when Andy has beaten Davydenko it has been largely the result of the russian being totally out of form that day.
Indian Wells and Miami will be a good test of where he is right now. In terms of talent he's certainly top 5 but as Steven mentioned above, when he loses his cool then he's nothing more than a 50-100 player. If he's going to play passive tennis then he'll continue to be vulnerable to anyone who happens to be on-form that day.
Still no offers? I only saw parts of the match, but if nobody else volunteers I'll hash up something from other peoples's reports this evening. We can hardly leave it unmentioned (much as we would like to!)

Well I watched it all but would rather forget it, which I guess is what others here feel, all I remember is the bad attitude and the foul mouth of Andy and the aggressive game Davydenko!
Okay, I have cobbled something together from various reports of the match, I will put it on bt.net then strive to forget the whole sorry business!
Edit - well, I will when I can get onto the site, at the moment I am getting a "server too busy" message. Maybe somebody else is putting their report on!
Thanks, Wolf, but I was just coming to report that I had now managed to do it. I googled the Freewebs main site and went in that way without a problem. Looks like it could have been a problem with my link, perhaps.
