RE: Week 9 - Challenger (€30000) - Wolfsburg, Germany

Didnt realise Ken was actually from Liverpool - apologies. Thought he was actually from near Wigan area on Liverpool side (e.g. Rainford or somewhere similar). This would explain the slight scouse twang but actually from Lancs. My mistake.

However, wouldnt go repeating that Liverpool is in Lancs round these parts! Dont think the scousers would want to be associated with anything but Merseyside and Lancs would DEFINATELY not agree with Liverpool being in their area. I'm a Lancastrian and wouldnt ever put them scouser in with us - be putting ourselves down! Lol

mjd - I know, amazingly late start for a R1 day - maybe they have another party tonight?

I think we should see Bloomers on at about 13.30 GMT - not sure if you missed the 1 before the 3 or got the timezones the wrong way round, but I don't want you to end up missing it!

sheddie - are you sure you read my post right? lol

Thanks Steven - I got time zone wrong of course wink

It appears that my mistaken 3.00 was correct all along , for whatever reason, as first match results have only just been shown. idea

It's because the Evans match went 7-6 5-7 7-6 and last as long as two normal matches, I think!

Unfortunately, Stadler has taken the 1st set 6-2 - Bloomers needs to remember that he beats this guy!

Apologies for anyone who's on this thread for the tennis, but I'm back to geography!

Liverpool has been part of Lancashire since the counties were recognised centuries back, hence my comment about the cricket. Lancashire move their home matches about - Old Trafford in Manchester, Aigburth in Liverpool, Blackpool and, occasionally, Southport. Tennis recognises Liverpool as part of Lancashire, and so do rugby and amateur boxing - and all other sports, probably.
Merseyside is a concept - it's really to allow guys from Birkenhead to pretend that they're not really from Cheshire; Johnylah will almost certainly speak scouse rather than Winsfordian! It's also useful for the years when Everton and Everton reserves (sorry, Liverpool) reach Wembley, so we can all pretend to be friends and chant 'Merseyside' in unison!
The idea that government re-organisation can actually move a city from one county to another is a nonsense; after all, another government ten years down the line is very likely to move it back again - I'm old enough to remember these happenings!! Suggesting that Liverpool isn't in Lancashire any more is tantamount to saying that Warrington is in Cheshire - which, technically, it is, but I suspect Gareth and all other Wire would be dismayed to hear that Lancastrians disown them, the way he's trying to disown us Scousers. And I speak with several hats on, here, having been born and spent my infant years in Knotty Ash, before moving over the border into Huyton and going to school in Prescot. Being well brought up, I support Everton, Liverpool City (rugby league, before they went defunct, so switching my allegiance to St Helens), and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Don't you mean to allow the people in Cheshire to pretend that Birkenhead is part of somewhere else? * ducks * smile.gif

Yes! Come on Richard, you can do it!

I'm finding this very nervewracking, partly because you know whne they next put the score up it could be all over, partly because I think this match may be particularly vital for Richard's confidence whichever way it goes - in a Challenger, higher-ranked player, beaten him before, etc. The pressure's on both of them.

As well you might! However, I'll let Johnylah take you up on that one, and keep quiet (for once in my life!)

That's a real pity, but probably one of Richard's better Challenger performances for a while. If only there were no points coming off from last year.

I'm not bothered. I'm from London. Just live on Wirral and work in Liverpool!
