Girls: Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships - 2007.

I thought Heather was playing under 16's?

Joanna Konta is in the MD and she was down as GBR so shes an extra one.

Just wondering why our top under 12's where there? I didn't see Beth Askews name or Elenor Deans name down. ARe they playing orange bowl, which generally is a lot stronger.

Shocker in the final qualies round:

Danielle Mills (USA) bt Naomi Broady (GB) 7-5, 6-4

Mills is ranked 900ish so decent for a 16 yr old but even so I'd have expected Broady to win comfortably...why do the older Brit girls always seem to underperform in these US junior events...do they not take them seriously or something ? I remember Anna Fitz having a run of losses in US junior tourneys last yr

Mills is quite good and this is her home tournament, so it's not a shock.

Stephanie (Q) Cornish (GBR) d. Andrea Yacaman (COL) 6-1;6-4

No idea why they aren't doing this, Mervatron. Most of our top 12s are doing the Orange Bowl, though. It's weird that they are making the trip for just one week.

The top boys are down for the Prince Cup as well.

Thanks for the update Arka.

Being based in the States, I was interested to see some of the matches between British and American juniors this week. Tomorrow features the following transatlantic tussles.

Girls 14 Singles

(1) Laura Robson vs. Riko Shimizu

Shimizu is ranked #86 in the country for Girls 14's with a 51-27 record. Given Laura's form and top seeding, this should be a comfortable win.

Girls 16's

Jordanne Dobbins vs. Tayler Davis (#20 nationally for Girls 16's)
Jennifer Ren vs. Lauren Herring (#2 nationally in Girls 14's and # 11 in Girls 16's)

Jennifer has an intriguing match here, against a top nationally ranked junior in 2 age groups. Herring is from my state of North Carolina and is regarded as the best girl's player in the state at any age group.

Girls 18's

Heather Watson vs. Melanie Oudin (#2 Girls 18's)

This would be a great scalp for Heather if she could pull this one off. Never seen Oudin play but she is considered to be a very tough competitor. The national rankings can be a little misleading, as some juniors play mostly adult tournaments, but to reach #2 in the nation you must be at a very high level.

3 out of 4 wins would be tremendous given the level of opponents today.

Oudin's incredible and I'll be happy if Heather keeps it close. Still, no harm in hoping for a win.

Tara plays Chernyakova, who is ranked 19, but has a highly inflated ranking. She beat Tara by 2 and 4 the only time they've played, but there could be an upset here.

Cornish plays Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands, who's ranked 58 in ITFs and 459 in women's. This is sort of tough, although not impossible.

Curtis plays Canadian 15 year old qualifier, Gabriela Dabrowski, who's ranked 184. Jade should win.
