ATP St Petersburg - SF - Murray v Youzhny

errmmm. Yay. I too had just about abandoned hope in set 3. Nice to come back to an Andy
murray real show of character (v25.1). It's one of the reasons I like the guy.

Phew!  Pushing his luck/dicing with death or what! eyepopping.gif  But I guess champions do precisely that!  Well done, Andy! clap.gif

Youzhny's serves let him dowm when he needed them most. smile Did Andy have a get-out-of-jail card in his back pocket? biggrin Great win from an almost impossible position. clap.gif

lol at the brief post match highlights reel on the stream....virtually all the pts they showed were of Youzhny winning and then clips of him pumping his fist and Murray trashing his racket....lol so biased....was the same after the Tursunov match yesterday

what a humdinger...along with the Nadal matches in Aussie Open and Madrid, one of the most exciting Murray matches of the year

was convinced Y had it at 30-0 on his serve, could just see him pulling out a couple of those huge aces but luckily he got tight and then in the tiebreak he kinda chucked it away with about 5 errors....

what a get though from Andy on matchpoint at 4-5, Youzhny just hammered a backhand into the corner..I thought it was game, set and match but Andy flung himself at it and it landed on the back edge of Youzhny's baseline and he went on to win the point....those sort of moments of inspiration win matches, was the case today

there were quite a few errors but from middle of the 2nd set onwards, the quality was high, both players hit some stunning shots....Youzhny just went up several gears....I was worried Andy was being a bit too passive from the baseline, Youzhny was taking charge most of the time and was beginning to punish Andy

the backhand down the line has certainly returned with a vengeance this autumn, imo it's better even than before the injury

if anyone wants to do a mini-match analysis for the website, that would be great smile.gif

Who do we want Andy to face in the final ?

I'd rather he played Cilic, ok he's beaten Davydenko this week and it was too close for comfort in the DC but Andy's playing at a much higher level now and I think he'd have too much experience plus when he worked Cilic out in the 3rd set of that DC match, he was completely outplaying him.

Verdasco is such a flashy player, he can have days when he's unplayable and beats the best in the world....I think Andy's game matches up well against him and he'd win against either but Cilic would be a more comfy match imo

Well done, Andy.

I'd obviously have him playing Cilic. Verdasco in my opinion is incredible and the biggest underachiever in the top 100.

Well that was too close but Andy will be chuffed I feel that he came through it specially after that terrible line call to loose the 2nd set. Well done.

Verdasco 4-2 up on Cillic in the first set....Andy should beat either of them.

A win that was not in Murray's hands! I watched the 3rd set on tv and murray was a 'cool' murray and i think he sensed that Youzhny was going to crack under pressure especially when saving the match point, his backhand that was quite not down the line was too close for comfort! but murray showed his class after saving the match point, his barrage of shots was too much for Youzhny to take in. and the tiebreak was very tame fom Youzhny's point of view, all murray had to do was to wait for the right shot, but most of the points that was for Murray, were errors from Youzhny,

i think Murray should be lucky he got away with this match, had that line call at the end of the second set was not called, maybe murray would have won in straight sets. overall an entertaining match to watch and i hope the final will be a straightforward final because if murray wants to go to Shanghai he needs to play his best tennis from NOW!

Great win for Murray today, and a great fightback from a position that didn't look good at all. He seems to be fighting hard to make it to Shanghai, and is coming through these tight matches which is great for him

He should win tomorrow, unless Verdasco has one of those days where everything that comes off his forehand is a winner

Oh come on Wolf the amount of times the Beeb have got histories wrong, scores wrong, names wrong....they even got Serena and Venus the wrong way around....dont get my wrong the BBC is my most visited site after here and its a great resource but as tennis is not 'fitba' it gets second rate attention..at times.

I was talking about the fact that you were saying the ATP site is as bad as the BBC. ATP is fantastic site, giving you the results, draws, and reports from all around the globe. So to say it is as bad as the BBC is just plain stupid...
