Junior Australian Open 2008

The ITF has released the information for the 2008 event.

http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/news/newsarticle.asp?articleid=18085

46 get in by DA with 2 SE. 8 WC and 8 Q.

Qualies 17th and 18th January 2008
Main Draw 20-26th January 2008

Dan Evans is currently ranked 20 and David Rice is 28 so they should make the MD. Marcus Willis is 53 so could make it.

Dan Cox is 60 so presume he would go for qualies ???

Boys : Junior Australian Open 2008

Cox will make the main draw very comfortably and will get a seeding if he does very well in Florida.

All the 1989 born players will become ineligible to play Juniors at the end of the year, remember?

Oi! Willis and Evo are 1990 born, too. biggrin.gif

I'll soon make a post about who all will be there and who have a chance of making it.

Here it is for anyone who'll find it useful:

Girls:

Confirmed direct entrants -

Jade Curtis

Those who have a good chance -

Tara Moore : She can make the cut as it is, but she probably needs to win a round or two at Eddie Herr (G1) to confirm it.

I am quite shocked that Tara isn't doing the G2 in Lexington next week. Won't be surprised to see her in qualies/with a wild card there.

Those who have an outside chance -

Jocelyn Rae : She has a G4 next week. If she wins that and if she does well
at Eddie Herr, she may have a chance, if quite a few people withdraw. Too many ifs, but it's surely possible.

Jade Windley : She has a G4 in Belgium to go and then Eddie Herr. Situation is identical to Rae's.

Laura Slater : She has some points coming off, so she needs to reach the final at Eddie Herr to have a proper chance. Also has a G4 in Thailand left.

Mathematically all of them but Jade Curtis are a long way off, by the way, but you can trust most of the 1990 born girls to quit Juniors by January.

Boys:

Confirmed direct entrants -

Daniel Evans
Daniel Cox
Marcus Willis

Those who have a good chance -

Niall Angus : It's only a mathematical possibility that Niall will miss out and it's not going to happen even if he doesn't play any more. Has a G4 in Thailand next week and Eddie Herr left.

Neil Pauffley : Pretty much the same as Niall, although I wouldn't bet my house on him getting a direct entry even if he doesn't pick points at Eddie Herr. But there's 95% chance that he's getting it.

Those who have an outside chance -

Tom Knights : Will have a good chance if he wins the G4 he is due to play next week and wins three rounds at Eddie Herr.

Mathew James : Needs to make the finals at Eddie Herr to have a good chance.

Obviously all these players can improve their chances by playing events that aren't on their schedules.

Drew, if you don't mind, could you please change the title of this thread by removing the 'Boys' tag? smile.gif We could just speculate and post the lists here and post the individual threads once the draws are out.

Thanks!!

I'm not sure if Dan and Dan will be doing this. Personally I wouldn't want them doing it because that'll probably make them miss men's tennis for the full of January. But their coaches know what's good for them far more than I do.

Jade'll probably have to do this because she has just six more women's events left till May, I think. cry.gif

Crumbs! I missed that Windley has a G4 in Belgium left. That improves her chances slightly.

Rae and Windley don't turn up for their respective tournaments.

Angus improved his ranking by 5 places last week and is now ranked 49 amongst players born in 1990 or later. So he's confirmed now.

Don't think any of the others will make it except for Tara.

In my experience the Aussie Juniors is usually the weakest of the 4 slams due purely to the travel time & time of year, I think most of those guys listed above will make it & Matt James should make qualies.
Also others to look out for are Lewis Barnes & James Richardson, they are part of a team going out to India to play 2 G4 in December & could nick a qualie spot if they have two great weeks. The possiblities are endless because until the acceptance lists are published in mid Dec we just dont know who will enter........ I know 1 thing though.....I'll be there!!

Welcome back!

I think that the points from the second ITF in India (and even the first ITF in India) will be added after the deadline. Last year they published the lists two days after the deadline, so it's unlikely that they'll wait for ten days this time.

I'm afraid not. cry.gif The second G4 starts on the 10th, a day after the Orange Bowl ends.

But it'll be great if they are delaying the lists and including the Orange Bowl! Knights will have a better chance then, plus Matt James and Rae will have outside chances.
