I'd not thought of that, I guess it could have been a factor. The comments from Nadal make me wonder though, either he (Nadal) is being hopelessly naive or Andy is imagining and/or exaggerating things.

It's time the lad learned to treat journalists with caution. You would think that he would have learned that by now. A simple, "I have heard rumours that it happens but have no personal experience" would have got him off the hook without all this hassle.
Now he has to face up to the ATP chiefs in Madrid - and whether or not he spoke the truth as he sees it, (and what would he have to gain by lying?) - he is likely to be reprimanded for saying something that they feel brings the sport into disrepute. That will hardly help his health and temper next week either.
Tim - next week is the Madrid Masters, an important, high-scoring tournament.

A bit of both, I think. Nadal is indeed incredibly naive if he thinks something like that would NEVER happen, though I am pretty sure it would not happen in the higher ranks. But Andy should not have said (if he did, I don't trust journalists!) that ALL the players knew about it. Certainly some did - Arvind Parmer and Giles Elseneer have both said they were offered money to throw a match, and on another board I have seen an article where Tommy Haas says that he has heard of it happening. I'll try to find the link.
Look I have to clear my head on this.....this whole match fixing situation was started by the BBC and as the week has gone on instead of reporting this as a 'radio 5 live investigation'...it has become 'look at the stick murray is getting for saying xyz...'
It was the BBC who asked murray for his comments re their 5 live investigation....yes andy was frank but that is andy for you. Then they ask Nadal for comments and it goes down hill for andy from there.
If i were andy I will be sptting mad at the bbc....talk about being left to on his own...im sure murray will have words privately with the bbc on this but i would be mad as hell. Andy will have to learn again from this that even the bbc will kick you when your down..when it suits them.
Drew I take your point entirely. But Andy has an enormous amount of support in terms of coach, management, PR etc., If they didn't work out this was a problem area and offer the appropriate advice then they are fools and should be fired. If they did advise and Andy didn't listen......
