Ah well, the first two sets killed Andy. Still, as disappointing as this was, it was nice to see him play so well at times and to look pretty fit. Just needs a few things tweaked, and some more match play but hopefully he can pick up a few points the rest of the year.

Commentator Jeff Tarango is having a go at Brad - reckons he is only good as a coach for people who are playing well, and can not help when they are not. Says he is not a technical coach. Strange.

I think that's harsh (I don't particularly like Jeff Tarango though so I may be biased wink ) Brad is obviously, first and foremost, a tactical guy which is what Andy's game is mostly based around. I think it could be argued that a guy as smart as Andy wouldn't need further help with tactics and needs more help with other aspects, but I think coming back from injury and lacking match sharpness was at least a contributary factor for this. Since Andy has started working with Brad his serve and his volleys have improved - they may have improved anyway, but he has worked on technical aspects of Andy's game with success. Prior to his injury he was also flatening out the forehand which is something he didn't do much of previously.

The one thing I think Brad could be doing better is getting Andy out of the blocks quickly in matches. I think sometimes Andy does try and feel out an opponent and it can make him look a bit sluggish and defensive and give the guy he's playing against a chance to take control of the set.

I just think for Taranga to say he isn't a good coach for Andy on the basis of his come back from injury is rubbish.

Yep, that is the way I heard it. I was too tired last night to go into any details but he was saying Brad is excellent for tactics, but if a player needs technical help with various parts of his shot armoury, Brad is not the man to supply it.
