The LTA site confirms that Heather beat Tara. omg.gifNever mind, Tara, winning this tournament would have proved nothing positive to the world.

Well done to Heather! Always knew that she was a talented player and now she has a result to back it up.
She is in the same year as Tara, so must be having a good knowledge of her game.

Second round:

Naomi Broady vs. Yvanna Kurlak
Amanda Cunnigham vs. Olivia Smith
Jocelyn Rae vs. Lisa Radford
Deborah Armstrong vs. Stephanie Cornish

Hannah James vs. Amy Sargeant
Samantha Vickers vs. Heather Watson

Anastasia Nebojanko vs. Jade Windley

I told you guys a few weeks back Tara Moore is good BUT due to her age & attitude is very much up & down!! Not a surprise in my book that she lost. She needs to improve her professional habits in order to get the best out of her talents.

good due to her age. Explain?

I did find her quite funny in wrexham. She strolled onto court chewing gum. Seemed to be warming up for the 1sti time that day in the warm-up. Didn't look too bothered when practising serve. it was more a case of trying to hit it harder and harder. She did seem to maybe lack a work ethic but then again she seemed like a pretty laid back girl.

When she can blast forehands and backhands like she could i doubt she feels she needs to practice.

Djokovic can hit loads of screaming winners too. But the two main components in his win against Fed yesterday were his head and his legs (or is that 3 components?)

Your head tells you that trying to hit a screaming winner when you're on the defensive and 10 feet behind the baseline may not be such a good idea.

And you don't get the legs without hours and hours of tedium and pain in the gym.

Ball-striking skills plus no work ethic and a lack of court sense = a lifetime of underachievement.

These are general, not personal, observations. I've never seen the person in question play.

Mervatron ..... sorry it was a typo which I have corrected!!
regarding you witnessing her warm up, she is improving...in Austria she didn't warm up once!! I agree with Ratty's comments 110% there are 2 types of player.

1-One who has all the talent in the world but does not work hard & usually "under achieve"
2 - One who has very little talent but works so so hard to get to the top & in some ways can "over achieve"

Martina Navratilova once described herself as the first type of player & chris Evert as the second but soon realised that " If I combine the two, I can create an almost unbeatable, all rounded champion" Look what she went on to achieve.
My point is now in the modern game, I don't think you can get anywhere near the top without combining the above types of players & unless Tara realises the lack of effort she is putting in, is not matching up to her talent & effectively harming her game, she to will be known as an under achiever.

Surely though someone and the LTA or Bollietieris is telling her she needs to work?

I hope so for sure!! Although there is only so much you can say to a player to make them work, the rest is down to them & if it doesnt come from them, you have all the answers you need. She needs to realise this quickly otherwise, she will soon find herself being caught up by the rest of her age group & potentially then playing catch up.

Laura's result isn't such a shock tbh cause her game doesn't really suit clay, she's a big hitter and best on the faster surfaces where her serve and forehand are most effective. Really struggled to get through her rd1 match yesterday and Natasha Marks has been in good form of late, winning some matches in 10Ks.

Jade has been in something of a slump recently and Anastasia would have been really pumped for this one, she was seriously pissed off at being made to go through qualies last week

I'm very surprised at Deb Armstrong losing to Steph...I watched Deb at Sutton and couldn't make out why she's not ranked higher, looked a very classy players with some great shots, particularly off the forehand. She probably needs to develop more power, she's a very slender build, bit like Anna Fitzy but doesn't hit with the power which Anna gets. Also, needs to be a bit more aggressive.....which also goes for Steph who plays too much like a counter-puncher at times

Heather Watson looks on fire this week ! Vickers gave Katharina Brown a very close match last week !
