Picky yes....very yes....but dropping his serve 2 or 3 times to Bobby is sloppy
C'mon.. this is Andy were talking about f f sake.. dropping his serve 2-3-4 times in a match is Andy all over, it's when he does it all in one set you need to start worrying.. remember he breaks back more often than not..good for the old ticker is the lad, better than being chased by a big scary thing.
Exactly the type of match Andy needed. Obviously the main thing was for him to come through injury free and he did, but he played pretty well at times as well, which was even more pleasing.
He looks like he's added a load of muscle during his time off and it was nice to see him looking to come into net quite a lot as well. The forehand looks a bit dodgy and you know Fed will kill him on that wing unless it improves (providing Andy gets through of course) but for his first match back, I am really really pleased at how well he played.
I hope his next match is not until Thursday; I am out tomorrow nearly all day and evening. Still a lot of first round matches to go so with a bit of luck. . .
Sorry, Madeline, but tomorrow's OoP is up & Andy is due back on court at 11.00 local time/16.00 BST tomorrow (someone else can have the kudos from starting the appropriate thread. I can't be bothered to work out how to do it with a poll ... )
Well if Murray win with ease 2mrw, at least he will have more rest time than Federer therefore has enough time to find an attractive gameplan to unsettle Federer, win or lose he has would have done his beat especially coming back from injury.
Unfortunately Star Sports didn't show it live but luckily they repeated the entire match later in the evening
Good performance from Andy, about as good as we could have hoped for after 2 months out against a dangerous opponent (especially on US hard as Ginepri was a US Open semi-finalist 2 yrs ago)...as Madeline said, he played quite passively from the back, counter-punching most of the time but he knew that'd be enough to beat Ginepri. A few sightings of the trademark Murray passing shots !! I was impressed with Andy's serving, high % and he was really going for them, not just rolling them in as he has done in the past to get more in....it got him a lot of cheap pts and at some crucial times.
Ginepri broke twice....first time was for 2-2 in the 1st, that was a bit sloppy from Andy as he'd been 30-0 up and threw in a couple of cheap errors but that was only to be expected.....2nd time was when Ginepri took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd...that was quality play from the American, some sublime volleying in that game
It was great to see Andy attacking the net so much to finish the points off , that's an area which has improved so much in the last 12 months...he has such great touch and anticipation, with his wingspan he's not easy to pass. Was great to see him really going after the Ginepri 2nd serve at times and following it in...particularly with the big backhand dtl on the deuce court.
Today, Ginepri constructed some great pts at times but simply did not have the ability to do it over and over again which is what's needed against someone of Andy's calibre. There were the usual Gineprisms aswell....some very strange shots on big pts
