Week 32 - ATP Masters - Montreal

Acasuso, Simon and Giquel have now also withdrawn, which means Mirnyi and Del Potro make the main draw

Del Potro is therefore out of qualifying, allowing in Bastl and Stoppini, as Boppana has withdrawn as well

Pretty sure this will mean that Alex is seeded now, as I think he is the 13th highest ranked player in the draw (although 1 remaining WC which could be given to someone with a better ranking than Alex)

The main draw is now out, http://www.atptennis.com/1/posting/2007/421/mds.pdf

Not the best of draws for a comeback.  First round Ginepri - OK, Andy has a 2-0 head-to-head, but not an easy match. If he gets through that, the second round should be easier, a low-ranked wild card or a qualifier. But the third. . .
Federer. Or possibly Karlovic if Fed has an early off day. Yuk.

Personally, I think he has got 1 of the best draws he could have asked for to ease himself back into tennis, up until Federer of course

Ginepri is totally clueless at the moment, and has barely won a match all year, so he will have no confidence. And I think he was the player that Andy beat last year when he was serving at around 30%, and that was when Ginepri was playing well.

Qualifier (hopefully Boggo, as the rest of the possible matches are terrible) or Polansky is definately winnable as well, so Andy really should be looking at round 3 here

Even then, Federer is not unbeatable as he often struggles after a long break and won't fancy playing Murray that early, but any thoughts of beating Federer shouldn't really be mentioned until we see how he plays in his return matches

It's not the best draw, but hopefully the prospect of Federer is a nice wee incentive for him. The important thing now is just to get back on court, the results don't really matter because his ranking will take care of itself once he is fully matchfit. Just now though all I want to see is him come out on court and whack a few forehands around and prove to himself as much as anything that the wrist is fine now.

Honestly - at this tournament, results are a bonus in my opinion. I just want to see him back on court and looking fit. A tie against Roger would be pretty nice to see though.

Boggo's qualifying section

M Russell
Armitraj
Stoppini
Boggo.

He should have enough for Stoppini but Russell is another kettle of fish. Hopefully Armitraj can catch Russell cold and Boggo can beat him!

I second that Aria .. i really don't mind how well / badly Andy does here, just so long as he doesn't grab his wrist and yell out in pain.  pray.gif

Andy is not on the Monday's OOP, so Tuesday it is. And as always SSX will show Murray's matches.

An assessment by Paul Newman in today's Indy of what he terms Andy's "salvage operation".  Haven't read it yet, so can't comment on its objectivity/fairness...

Pretty good article - some quotes by David Felgate about Xavier Malisse's wrist injury. Looks like Andy was pretty lucky.

There's an interview with Andy on Master Series tv as a freebie. Just scroll down and it's there. He sounds pretty realistic about things and seems happy enough about being back.

When did Odesnik suddenly get good? Last week and now, qualifying for masters and pulling off a great round one win

What is happening to Gonzo? He had so many chances against Stepanek despite the injury. I still dont think he a 'officially' a top 10 player despite reaching the final of the AO at the start of the year. He's been inconsistent after AO. i thought he had different kind of tactics when he is down but he either relies too much on his forhand or slice backhand.
