WIMBLEDON PICK 'EM and Battle of the Boards (Excel no longer needed!)

Just given it a bit more hype on MTF and told them that we have this competition in the bag.... all we need to do now is live up to that billing

My entry will be coming in later, as I just need come to a firm decision on how far I think a few people will go (namely Murray, Gasquet and Nalbandian).

Me too - think I must have hit the send button only seconds before I heard the news on the BBC! The email address to update your entry for changing just a few picks is:

btpickem@hotmail.com

We aren't sure whether Murray is replaced simply by a LL or by the 33rd seed yet. When we know you can either email that address with a few changes or resubmit a whole sheet. We'll let you know when we do!

He's been replaced by Kevin Kim directly. Placed in the draw on the Wimbledon website.

RE: WIMBLEDON PICK 'EM and Battle of the Boards + options re Andy w/d

WIMBLEDON PICK 'EM ANNOUNCEMENT

Unfortunately (though perhaps not surprisingly), Andy Murray (GBR) has had to withdraw from Wimbledon because his wrist injury has not fully healed and his place in the draw has been taken by 'lucky loser' Kevin Kim from the USA.

Existing entries for the competition are still valid, but as was explained in the bit about late w/ds on the entry accepted page, each time you picked Andy Murray to win a match, the system will assume you predicted Kevin Kim to win instead. However, since Murray was the no. 8 seed, a lot of you may have picked him to go deep into the draw, so I will repeat what it said on the entry accepted page here.

If you now want to change your entry, you are welcome to fill in the revised entry form at http://www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/pickemef.htm - if you do so it is essential that you put NEW after your name so that we know that we need to find and replace your old entry. If you printed out your original entry sheet before clicking send, it should only take a couple of minutes to redo your picks and then change the Murray/Kim section.

Alternatively, if you have only a very simple change (e.g. you think Kim will go out just one round before you predicted Murray to go out), you can email btpickem@hotmail.com with details of the change you want to make. Please do it this way only as a last resort though, and not for any changes that affect the names of the winners of more than one or two matches, because we are going to be at full speed trying to paste all the new entry forms into the system in time and correct the most obvious errors (those bits are still done manually), since the number of entrants is already well into three figures.

All new entries/changes need to be in by the original deadline, i.e. 08.00 GMT (9 am UK, 10.00 CET, 4 in the morning US Eastern) tomorrow, Monday.

If you don't see this in time, don't worry, unless you picked Murray to reach the semis or beyond, his withdrawal may well not have a huge effect on your final result.

(FRIENDLY) WARNING

Up until 16.00 GMT (5 pm UK) today, we were checking entries as they came in and contacting people if there appeared to be mistakes, e.g double picks or missing picks. Because of the extra work created by the change in the draw, we won't have time to carry on doing this.

So, for your own sake, please make sure you look at the "Pre-Submission Checklist" just above the send button and correct any errors, missing picks or double picks before clicking Send. Otherwise, the system will simply default to whatever it says it will do against each error shown in that checklist box and you will automatically score 0 for any missing picks.

Good luck everybody, once the competition actually starts, it's going to be a lot of fun!

Someone had better PM John;) I wonder who he picked to win the Henman vs Murray battle in round 3 and hence reach the final against Boggo:)

Damn Murray and his early withdrawal... I was hoping that if he was going to withdraw, he could at least have waited until 9:01 tomorrow to do it so that my pick of Lapentti to beat Murray would have been more likely to succeed...

As long as my risks come off, then I think that I have a decent chance of doing well here, and hopefully the people I have picked to have a surprisingly good run don't do the usual thing and throw it away in round 2 or 3... (and you know who you are....)

I got it from the one on page one in the end!

New pick 'ems in. As I didn't print out the first set, this one is probably completely different! But I'll probably be just as bad!!!

I've got three robots plus my own picks to do, so if anyone wants there to be a Billy the Bookie robot for this pick 'em (a suggestion someone had when I asked for new robots), please can you do his picks. (if you're going to, please post here first so that nobody duplicates your work!)

How to do it:

Use the normal entry form, and at the bottom, put
Billy (*)
as the name, pick Robot from the gender list and don't worry about the other fields down there, even if error messages say you should.

To pick the R1 matches, go to

http://odds.bestbetting.com/tennis/wimbledon/mens-matches/

change the odds to decimal by clicking the little 2.75 against odds format and then go through the R1 matches assuming Billy would pick the player with the lower odds to win.

If the odds are equal, go for the higher-ranked player (see http://stevegtennis.com/rankings/2007/s061807.htm)

For later rounds (or if any R1 matches are no shown), go to http://odds.bestbetting.com/tennis/wimbledon/men's-winner and for each match-up pick the player with the lower bookmaker odds to win - again, look at the rankings if odds are equal.

Thanks in advance! smile

If no-one else is currently doing it then I'll do one for Billy the Bookie in a couple of minutes

Done and sent.... some surprising calls by the bookie, so we'll have to see how much of it they do get right in the end
