Teams for the Wimby pick 'em

The new, much more user-friendly Excel-free entry form at http://www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/pickemef.htm is ready to go apart from needing the draw to be made.

For the Wimbledon pick 'ems (and possibly for all grand slams if the Wimby one is successful), we are going to invite people from lots of other boards to enter so that there are more teams. (N.B. we are working on a way of ensuring that teams of very different sizes have an equal chance of winning)

The teams I have thought of so far are:

- BT.net
- AM.com
+
- MTF
- Greg Rusedski message board
- BTZ
- Tim Henman board
- BBC tennis boards

If you know of any other forums / message boards that you think we should advertise this to (or you think you can convince any players, journalists or people from the LTA to form a team!), please let me know by the end of Wednesday.

N.B. to avoid teams ending up being very fragmented, please don't suggest a board that is made up of virtually the same people as a board that is already on the list. (e.g. I assume virtually everyone on booty & stretch is a AM.com member too?)

i still post on the bbc, just generally in the 'brit watch' threads with my boggo news & views, trying to ignore all the copious weakest era/sampras threads.

I don't think there is a Tim Henman board, certainly not on his official website and none leap out if you google for it.

I'm happy to cover BT.net and AM.com in that capacity if you need me too (picking the easy job given everyone there is used to the system smile.gif)

I would like to leave the murraysworld forum out of the competition....also I very much doubt that they would want to participate....lets just say that the admin there and I have "issues" plus they're serial Boggo bashers

There are still some decent posters on the Beeb with good knowledge of tennis so it would be good to have them participating

We could also contact the Kings of Clay board....Madeline is in contact with the guy who runs that so maybe she could volunteer...someone will need to pm her about this tho because I don't think she reads this section....they would like to have a links arrangement with this site...something I need to sort out soon

There's also the ESPN tennis board.....what about some of the other official sites...eg rafaelnadal.com, rogerfederer.com

Nobody joined the TFF game for the French Open from MW or the Booty & Stretch boards. It might be worth trying them for this, but don't be surprised if there is not much response.

There is an unofficial Tim Henman messageboard, but there was no life on it when I last looked.

OK, given what you and the shedster have said, I'll take MW out and wasn't going to include B&S anyway.

I'll resist the obvious comment wink

I don't think it's too dangerous to advertise it on the BBC board, especially if we just give them the link to the site and don't particularly encourage them to come on this message board.

Re. the Fed & Rafa boards etc, we could just post on all of them and see what happens. The only thing is lots of tiny teams will be more hassle than they're worth. Still, I guess if it catches on with one of those boards, their teams won't be tiny!

I might just advertise it on the boards like that myself and then we'll sort out someone to look after them if we get a lot of entrants from them.

Jsut looking around the tennis sites on the net, this may bethe wrong time to try to broaden out the pick 'em - there's the TFF competition as well, this year's ATP Fantasy tennis starts with Wimby, MTF are running at least 5 different prediction comps for Wimby, etc ... and they are virtually all open for entry already and having later closing dates/times/

I guess a lot will depend on whether people feel that having done the research to enter one comp makes it easy to enter another.

Anyway, there's no harm in trying and we do have the 'battle of the boards' thing to make it stand out - and if the new system works as well as I think it will, we'll be set up perfectly for future comps, whatever happens this time.

I'll be in the Prediction Game. May as well be useless in this as usual as well as the TFF game.

Still looking for more recruits for my mini-league so we can have a good chance of defending the crown we won at RG! wink.gif

Since most of this thread has been about everything but the things I asked about in the first post furious I'm not going to pre-advertise the comp on any other boards today, I'll just post on any I can think of tomorrow after the actual draw has been added to the entry sheet.

However, most boards require people to register first (*) and I'm only registered here, on AM.com, on BTZ and on MTF (that's more than enough!) so if anyone is registered on one of the main boards (e.g. BBC or one of the popular player sites that have message boards, e.g. Fed, Rafa) and wouldn't mind copy and pasting a bit of text I'll put here tomorrow, please shout now! smile

(*) the Rusedski board and the Tursunov sites are the only popular ones that I can think of that don't require pre-registration.

I'm registered on Federer's if you want me to do that - be warned I'll be going in for the double kill, though! lol
