Some great wins for Cox and Milton particularly Cox's rd2 win as Rungkat took out world no 3 Romboli in rd1
Cox and Milton now square off for a place in the quarters...they faced eacch other twice last autumn and Cox won both encounters....6-3, 6-3 in a futures indoors and 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the final of a G4 on clay....Cox's more aggressively minded game will make him the favourite on grass
Matt James also had a great rd1 win over Aussie world no 11 Stephen Donald who also has some pts on the mens tour but a surprisingly one sided defeat in rd2 today against an American qualifier
Smethurst did well to push Eysseric that close as Eysseric is in the top 1000 on the mens tour and played the French Open main draw last month
Willis also got a rotten rd1 draw....Klizan was world junior no 1 and won RG juniors in 2006
Shame that Dyce wasn't able to come through that close rd2 match, showing signs that he's getting back to his best form...his big game should be well suited to grass so hopefully with a decent draw he can cause some damage at Wimbledon next week. I believe he's mainly concentrating on futures from July onwards
Quarters: D Cox bt D Britton (USA)(q) 1-4, 5-4(7), 10-6
Great stuff from Cox, bettering his performance from last year...did really well to come through that tough one against Britton who may be a qualifier but has knocked out a number of much higher ranked players this week....Cox took the 2nd set breaker 9-7...probably saved match pts !
