PICK 'EM at Roland Garros

number 8) doesn't count because I specified 'different' reasons...
and now I want to know what number 9) could've been if activeboard deleted it!!
and I like number 10).

If guy (or someone else is willing to do it I'd participate, but I think it should be just a practise like Hamburg so that the team competition in its bigger and better version is fresh for Wimbledon. smile.gif)

Yes, a brilliant performance by David, it has to be said. smile

I haven't checked in detail (beyond working out whether I can overhaul Josh, only to find that the best I can do after Kolya's win today is to finish 3 points behind him cry), but I think a Fed win will give us the first 'double' (BT & Josh), a Nole win will give them the first 'double' (AM & Fitz) and a Rafa win will leave honours even yet again (AM & sheddie) - that's not 100% certain though.

Meanwhile, here's the picks analysis for tomorrow:

(6) Novak Djokovic : 2.56 swing to AM
Igor Andreev : no swing

12 BTs and 19 AMs went for Nole but nobody went for Andreev. Those cheering for the Russian, however, may include:

- 6 BTs (Josh, mkkreuk, DavidCarter, Johnnylad, ForeverDelayed & Grundon) and 2 Ams (Xenon & nicki), who picked Ferrer.
- 1 AM (Daisy), who went for PH Mathieu.
- 1 BT (Drew), 2 AMs (Blodwyn & spraggz) and 1 robot (Roberta), who went for * player name withheld to protect these players' dignity, but did I mention that he quacks a lot? * wink

(23) Carlos Moya : no swing
(2) Rafael Nadal : 0.49 swing to BT

18 BTs, 22 AMs and Roberta went for Rafa but nobody went for Moya. Those cheering for Carlos may include:

- 2 AMs (Fitz & Daisy) who picked Hewitt.
- John (BT) who went for * player name withheld to protect John's reputation, but did I mention that his pick has a bouncy tail? * wink

End of the days play (for the mens singles anyway) and the detailed results can be found on the website: http://www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/2007rg.htm

BritishTennis.net lead AndyMurray.com by an average of 199.21-195.38 points per team member after 124 matches.

and the top 10:

POS. PLAYER    TEAM   TODAY    TOTAL    %
     1David Cox           BT     32   24877.5%
     2goldfish            BT     32   23172.2%
     3kayce               AM     32   22770.9%
     4Claire Bear         AM     32   22269.4%
     5Wendy               AM     32   22169.1%
     6Josh               BT     16   21968.4%
     7Rob C               BT     32   21868.1%
     8RoastLamb           AM     32   21667.5%
     9steven              BT     32   21466.9%
   10Allan               AM     32   21366.6%

Special mention should be made for David Cox, Goldfish, Wendy, Allan, Carrie and Count Zero who are the first people to get 100% for a round since we started doing this. clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
curiously it's three from each board so neither of us can claim to be better biggrin.gif

Can't be the first time anyone's got 100% for a round - anyone who has picked a winning finalist or both finalists will have done that. However, I know what you mean - I'm sure it's the first time it's happened earlier than that though. I am particularly impressed by sheddie, I have to say, who has managed 11/12 for the last two rounds combined! I realise granny managed 15/15 at the start of R1, which was another awesome achievement, but to get 11/12 in R4 & the QFs, you not only have to get the results right, you have to pick the relevant players to get to R4 in the first place too!

Picks analysis for the semis

(1) Roger Federer : 1.33 swing to BT
(4) Nikolay Davydenko : no swing

All of us went for Fed except AllyB (AM), who picked Gonzo to win this match and to lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires on Sunday. He will be hoping against hope that the Undertaker is responsible for Fed's RG funeral in order to limit the damage

(6) Novak Djokovic : 1.33 swing to AM
(2) Rafael Nadal : 0.98 swing to BT

18 BTs and 22 Ams picked Rafa to reach the Final, while only Fitz (AM) went for Nole to win this match and go on to win the title. John (BT) went for Tigger to do the same, while Daisy (AM) expected PH Mathieu to be the losing finalist.

What are the possibilities now?

At this stage, it is still possible for either team to win, for the final margin to be big or tiny, for three different entrants to win the individual and for either team to do the double or for each board to win one part of the competition yet again!

So that you can work out who to cheer for, here are the possibilities for each possible outcome of the Final. However, I'm only mentioning the potential winners - I'll keep you in suspense about who might finish 2nd or 3rd, where you might finish and who might end up closest to the gorillas' cage!

BT.net will become the first board to do the 'double' in the following scenarios:

If Fed wins the title : BT would win by over 22 points (if he beats Rafa) or by over 20 points (if he beats Nole) and Josh (BT) would win the individual.

If Kolya wins the title : BT would win by just under 5 points (if he beats Rafa) or by 2.50 points (if he beats Nole) and David Cox (sheddie, BT) would win the individual.

Different boards will win the team and individual competitions yet again in the following scenarios:

If Rafa wins the title : AM would win by over 8 points (if he beats Fed) or by over 9 points (if he beats Kolya) but David Cox (BT) would win the individual.

If Nole beats Fed : BT would win by just 1.17 points but Fitz (AM) would jump from 33rd to 1st and win the individual.

AM.com will become the first board to do the 'double' in the following scenario:

If Nole beats Kolya: AM would win by just 0.17 points and Fitz (AM) would win the individual by over 30 points.

N.B. Even the outcome of the teams competition will be in doubt until the end of the Final unless Fed and Nole both win their semis.

Quick update after the Fed match, not much change only one person predicted Fed to lose so BT.net increases it's lead a little bit:

BritishTennis.net lead AndyMurray.com by an average of 231.21-226.04 points per team member after 125 matches.
There's no change to the top10.

With just one match to go:

BritishTennis.net lead AndyMurray.com by an average of 261.53-255.38 points per team member after 126 matches.

So:

- if Fed wins the title : BT would win by over 22 points per entrant and Josh (BT) would win the individual, making BT the first board to do the 'double'

- if Rafa wins the title : AM would win by over 8 points per entrant but David Cox (BT) would win the individual and the 6 countries would be represented among the top 7 finishers!

David will get the record for the highest number of correct match predicitions (90 or 91 out of 127 whatever happens) and will have got 14 of the last 15 picks right if Rafa wins - almost symmetrical with the 15/15 that granny got right at the start of R1.

Detailed results are at http://www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/2007rg.htm

Summary: (now with winner picks) in next post

FINAL RESULTS

Well RG is over and so is the pick 'em - thank you to everyone who took part and special thanks to Bethan/imoen/baiaine for sharing the results load so brilliantly once again! biggrin (if not for having three different names wink)

TEAM COMPETITION

Congratulations to AM.com, who have made it 2-2 in the team competitions head-to-head:

AndyMurray.com beat BritishTennis.net by an average of 303.38-295.21 points per team member after 127 matches.

AM.com won despite BT entrants getting very slightly more picks right on average (80.11-79.71) and winning more rounds (4-3, as close as it could be!) - they have Rafa to thank for giving them a BIG win in the Final! It was a very close and exciting contest until almost the very end and probably the most fun so far, particularly for the first 7-10 days when lots of matches were getting played each day.

INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION

For the fourth time in a row, though, the individual competition was won by a player from the losing team - congratulations to BT.net's David Cox / sheddie, whose 83.9% score broke all known records, even if you take into account pick 'ems played before the team competition started.

The competitions page at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html has links to the detailed results for the Roland Garros pick 'em and the updated Hall of Fame.

SUMMARY RESULTS - TOP 20

See next post.

PICK 'EM OVERALL RANKINGS

We are consulting over the details of the overall ranking system and the first set of overall rankings will be published sometime between now and the start of Wimbledon.

WIMBLEDON PICK 'EM

The new much easier to use entry system has tested perfectly smile and the Wimbledon Pick 'Em will open for entries within an hour of the main draw appearing on the Wimbledon website on Friday 22 June, with entries closing at 21.00 BST (or possibly a bit later) on Sunday 24 June.

The Wimbledon pick 'em will be a special event with more teams (though I'm sure we'll all still be keen to see whether AM.com or BT.net do better between the two of them!) and will incorporate a NEW male v female contest as well - the latter is really just to give me an excuse to ask for gender on the entry form so I don't start using 'she' instead of 'he' (or vice versa) for people with 'ambiguous' names! wink
