Andy's latest injury

its a pity hes not going to play! but i suppose it was expected because if he did win against Lapentti, then i think he would have struggled thereafter since he hasnt played since May. Onwards and Upwards for Murray, he probably cannot wait for the US hardcourt swing to begin, another 3 weeks and he'll be ready!

Andy is definitely OUT - he said "he needed another 10 days and it is unlikely to rain for 10 days!

This must be so disappointing for Andy, he's obviously given it as long as he dared before making the decision. I can't help but think he and his advisers have made a very wise judgment. Better to miss this year and get properly fit than to enter a tournament, albeit Wimbledon, weirdfaceand suffer an even bigger setback. Those fans who genuinely love tennis and want the best for him will fully understand. I hope someone who's left in the draw will give us something to cheer during this first week.yawn

A reluctant thumbsup.gif to that, H.  There's no doubt that it's a bitter pill to swallow at this late stage, but, IMHO, he's to be applauded for being sensible & heeding medical advice! sad.gif I was torn between relishing the prospect of seeing him get stuck in again & fear that, if he competed & wasn't fully fit, he'd jeopardise his entire future career! Long, long wait until next year, but maybe  he'll give us something to cheer in the DC & at Flushing Meadows, neither of which is so far ahead... Wonder who'll get in the Wimby draw as LL now?

Looking at the Wimbledon site, it appears to be Kevin Kim.weirdface

Just had a look myself (was too lazy to do so earlier! wink.gif ) & I see that that match has been relegated to Court 18, while James Blake's match against Andreev has been moved to Number 1. C'mon, Igor... 2gunsfiring.gif

I'm glad Andy's made this decision even though I'm also a wee bit disappointed that he's not playing. The main thing is that he looks after his wrist - there have been too many players who have trouble with their wrists and I'd rather he took another few weeks and recovered instead of rushing back and doing himself more damage. It was a very sensible decision and I'm sure it wouldn't have been easy to make considering the pressure there would have been from people for him to play. It looks like he's finally learned his lesson to listen to what his body is telling him instead of trying to play through the pain barrier - admittedly it only took two AMS semifinals and trying to play on with the wrist injury for him to finally work that one out...

That link don't work for me either. Even when I go through the Indy home page I can't get onto the tennis section. Working for anyone else or is the sport section of Indy down?

It worked for me john but the Indy site does on occasions become unavailable.confused I hope Minto isn't going to be out for as long as Kiefer was.cry Kiefer's injury did appear to be a little more serious than Andy's, he did fall on his wrist, he was lucky not to have broken it. Andy must take as long as is necessary to get back to full fitness.thumbsup.gif

Taken from Andy's column in the Sun....

My classic return

ANDY MURRAY confirmed last night he expects to return to action in two weeks.

The British No 1 has entered the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles, beginning on July 16, and is confident he will make it.

Murray, forced to withdraw from Wimbledon, has not played competitively since injuring his wrist against Filippo Volandri in Hamburg in May.

But the SunSport columnist said: I am looking to play in LA and, at the moment, it would be a shock if I didnt. I am feeling a lot better.

For the last four days, I have been hitting a lot harder on my forehand, which is very encouraging.

Currently ranked at eight in the world, Murray is set to slip out of the top 10 next week after losing his Wimbledon ranking points.

Also reported in today's Indy:

Murray return could be delayed by a fortnight

by Paul Newman

Andy Murray is expected to delay his comeback because his injured wrist is taking longer to heal than expected. The British No 1, who damaged tendons in his racket wrist while playing in Hamburg nearly two months ago, had been planning to return in Los Angeles in 10 days' time but is now unlikely to play again before the Washington tournament a fortnight later.

Murray had hoped to play at Wimbledon but withdrew on the eve of the tournament, saying he had been advised to rest his wrist for 10 days. He had been planning to fly to America yesterday with Brad Gilbert, his coach, but after having a scan on Wednesday the Scot is now set to delay his departure until he has seen a specialist next week.

Judy Murray, his mother, said yesterday: "He's got to have a little bit more rest and it's going to take a little bit longer than maybe he had originally hoped, but he's definitely on the mend."

After reaching a career-high No 8 in the world rankings a fortnight ago, Murray will be keen to return as soon as possible in the American hard-court season, when he has a large number of points to defend. Washington would be an appropriate place to come back as he reached the final there 12 months ago.
