How strange! Cox didn't play any part at all! Hopefully he was just getting some well deserved rest and isn't injured.
But GB have qualified! We play Bosnia and Herzegovina for a seeding in the main draw.
Pauffley did very well against Gutierrez but lost by 63 26 67. Evo beat Rumenov by 46 61 64 - lovely comeback win. Then we won the doubles by 26 75 64.
Looks like it was a great tie as all the matches were extremely close three setters.
Our 16s team lost in the first round to far superior Italian team. El Menshawy lost to Andrea Stucchi by 26 46 and Goodall lost to Giacomo Miccini by 62 57 8-10, before we clinched the doubles match.
Spoke to Evo yesterday....he's really happy with his performances so far especially the win over Rumenov who's good on clay and Evo saved a match point. He says it's good for the confidence to be getting some wins after a few early losses recently
We drew Italy and won by 3-0. Cox beat Stefano Valenti by 61 75. Evans beat Fioravante by 67 61 64. Neil and Evo won the doubles after that.
Now we face the top seeded French team. They are incredibly strong and far more experienced, but we can do it. Cox and Evans beat a French team that had the two best European players to win the World Junior Tennis thing in 2004.
Evans will face Eysseric and Cox will play his enemy of old, Stephane Piro.
Cox just needs to forget what has happened to him when he played Piro and focus on this match. He has beaten players who are far better than him. I am sure that he can conquer him if he is at his best.
