Andy Murray has hinted that he might make himself unavailable for Great Britain's Davis Cup play-off against Croatia in September. The Scot, 20 on Tuesday, believes constantly switching surfaces has contributed to recent injuries. He said: "I might have to consider my Davis Cup commitments. You have to think about the Tour first........................................................"
Source -BBC I trust he will then also make himself responsible for paying for his own coach !
he won't quit Davis Cup...I think he's just trying to make a pt to the ATP that they need to do something about scheduling
Injury permitting it'll still be Murray and Henman for Croatia
I'd personally hate to see him give up DC as for the first time in years, we have a genuine chance of getting back into world group and winning a round
Hasn't really been any sniff of that happening since 2002 when we really should have beaten Sweden
Yeah, but I'd much rather see him winning Slams than us winning the DC.
Yeah Im sure we all would be your missing the pt about DC Arka...DC tennis is all about rep-resenting your country and being part of the whole event...sitting in Birmingham at all the PC you can feel the excitement from the players and how they love DC tennis....Murray repeatedly stated his love for DC and Tim was completetly invigorated being back.
There is always another meaning when Andy makes these statements....
About a month ago the Tennis Channel over here replayed that 1999 tie against the USA (I think that was in Birmingham too). The atmosphere and tennis was amazing, only second to a Grand Slam. I have no idea why a player would not want to miss something like that and so am sure that that is in Andy's dreams. In fact, I think Tim is back only because Andy is so good that Tim realizes with this team that kind of match is on the cards again.
Yeah, I get it, Drew and I am all in favour of DC tennis. But I don't see how fitting in three extra weeks of tennis will help someone who is going to challenge for Slams in the future. It's not possible to win at the highest level if you play so much competitive tennis. Even now, when Andy is rarely going past the last four stage of tournaments, he gets injured all the time. Imagine how dire things can get if he plays even more matches than now!
Of course it's an honour to play for your country and on top of that, almost all young players dream of playing DC one day. But sometimes in life you need to make sure that you are not trying to do more than what you're capable of, and maybe this is one such case.
It's not like Fed doesn't love Switzerland. The fact that most top players of today don't play every tie is reason enough for Andy to quit it.
If the LTA isn't paying for Brad, they'll lose more than what Andy will. He's not going to help Boggo and a few youngsters if Andy's paying him.
