I can't believe his luck....I was so looking forward to Wimbledon....with Greg gone, Andy hurt and Tim having a really tough year Wimbledon could be a nightmare.....heartbreaking to read this news.....
Wow, looking at the voting at the top of the thread, you lot had more faith in Andy than we did at am.com. I posted on am.com that I had written off the clay season this year: and unfortunately, that has now happened due to injury. I really hope Andy is soon better and can show us just why we are all rooting for him - I really expect that he can do brilliantly both on grass and hard courts this summer.
David, you enjoy watching 10,000 hits long rallies where both people are waiting for the other to make a mistake instead of attacking tennis?
Read as - David, you enjoy watching Brits lose?
Ouch, where did that one come from !
You don't like clay just because it makes your fur dirty
How did u manage to deduce from my statement about enjoying clay-court tennis that I enjoy watching Brits lose ???? Of course I don't..if I did, why would I have created this site ! I just meant that I find clay-court tennis fun to watch whoever's playing because of the long rallies and the greater tactics and point construction that's required...I like watching the rallies. Clay's a greater test for a lot of players because they can't get out of trouble with a few big serves

I thought that Andy would win quite comfortably, ok Volandri had a good run last week but it was a bit of a 1 week wonder (like Greg making rd4 of RG back in 1999 - nearly made the quarters that year !!!), he benefitted from absolutely shocking performances from Fed and Berdych. Got completely blown away by an on-form Gonzo in the semis (shame that he went on to play so, so badly in the final).
Volandri's not like Simon who's very solid and constructs the pts excellently and so can trouble an out of sorts Murray on clay...Volandri goes for his shots a lot more and is a bit flashy so he'll make quite a few errors. Even if Murray isn't at his best and playing fairly passively, he's still likely to outdo Volandri for consistency as happened in Doha in Jan. Volandri's big wins in Rome last week came against two players who are also very flashy and contributed to their own demise tbh, going down in a blaze of ues.
