Watching the match, at start of the 2nd set Murray had hit a couple of great shots but I think he'd been struggling to come up with ideas regarding how to break Simon down....the changes of pace aren't so effective on the clay and he was playing very passively....in the end making errors out of frustration
However, now he's playing more solidly, working the pts better, and most importantly being more aggressive
Wow, you're off to Rome Mad !!! That sounds amazing...have u been before ?
You should have scheduled it for this week could have been our special on-the-spot reporter at the tourney
I don't suppose my husband would have let me go to the tennis anyway. Note I booked the hols so I am back for Roland Garros though. . .
No, I haven't been before. We're spending a few days in Florence too.
Rome's a beautiful city, there are sites to satisfy all interest be it ancient history, art, architecture or something else. You should go and see the Piazza Venezia in the city centre. If you go to the top of the building behind it (who name I have forgotten but its a museum) you get a stunning view of most of Rome. Plus the building itself is beautiful both inside and out. I hope you have a great time both there and in Forence.

Thank you for the commentary David sounds like Andy found his rhythm in that second set and settled down. Hopefully he doesn't lose it again during this rain break but comes out just as he's getting hungry for something doughy

The biggest barrier I see to Murray posting good results on clay is that he doesn't always finish the point as efficiently as he might when he's got the opponent out of position. He's good at working a point and staying patient but he can often not put the ball away and then he's back in a rally situation - on other surfaces it's harder to punish him for this because the opponent needs to be fast to get back in position. On clay his opponent has more time to retrieve. On this surface in particular, he needs to be a bit more decisive when he has his man on the move and he's hitting the finishing shot - either more power or more depth, or both.
Restart not before 20:30 local time, but they seem optimistic they can get the match finished. Rain has stopped, court is being dried and prepared (why on earth they didn't cover it is anyone's guess)
matches are back on the scoreboard so hopefully that means they'll be starting again soon.
They never seem to cover the clay courts and then they bring out these hairdyers to dry it off, it seems like a real waste of time to me but perhaps they have their reasons.

They are back on court I see; the lights are on. Commentators are saying the balls will be slow and heavy off the court. Oh dear, I hope Andy doesn't have another of his slow starts.
