Davis Cup Draw

Worst possible draw I'm afraid - Croatia. Only shining light is that we've got home draw

Should be a great tie - hope it's somewhere near...can't really go with grass if Ancic plays!

Why is it a bad draw?

Both Tim and Andy are capable of beating Karlovic and at least one should beat Ancic. And we'll be the favourites for the doubles.

He's supposedly retired from Davis Cup. Though admittedly it's not clear if he will play this tie or not before he does.

Even if does

a) Andy can beat him
b) Ancic may still not be at his best. He's still out with mono and may not get back before the hardcourt season, if even then.
c) Andy can beat Karlovic
d) It's a home tie.

On paper it's a bad draw but in reality I don't think it's *that* bad.

Retired.

But there's an outside chance that he may come back for this. hmm

Good luck trying to figure out a surface to gain an advantage on!!

With Ancic you would be loath to play Croatia on grass.
With Ljubicic you wouldn't really want to play indoor.
Ancic made quarters of Rolland Garros last year, and Ljubicic made semis!!
Which leaves some kind of outdoor hard similar to the US courts, where at best we would start on a level playing field!!

isn't ancic ill?

however i think we will really need tim and andy for this one, if either get injured then i cant see anyone from below being able to step up enough. might might be karlovic on a good day, as he has beaten him b4, but i find it unlikey he would in the dc over 5 sets at the moment.

Ancic has glandular fever. He is expected to back in a couple of months.

Let's not forget that Ljubicic had a joke draw to make semis of RG last year - I'd be astonished if he comes close to backing it up this year.

I wouldn't put it on grass - I think Ancic would trump Tim these days and it's not Andy's best surface.

I wouldn't put it on clay purely because it's not going to suit Tim and it's not Andy's best surface results-wise either.

BBC has corrected itself and now says home tie.

Good.

Well this should be very interesting, anyway.

What's Karlovic got to do with anything...I'd expect it to be Cilic. confused
