Davis Cup Draw

Going back to a British angle, anyone got views on our team for Innsbruck/Madrid?

It feels like Dan and Cam are slam dunks; Joe clearly as well. I cant see a case for Jamie really, definitely Neal as he and Joe would work well, possibly (playing SD together ) and Dan/Neal also. And then Andy, we need a third singles player and Andy fits that bill well, and could play doubles with Joe as well , giving us options.

Feels like a strong team- playing France and Czech Republic in the group, Id take that team to top the group.

Andy isnt planning to play Davis Cup this year , partly due to schedule and need for some rest and family time, partly he doesnt think he merits a spot.

Team announced on the Davis Cup twitter feed. Dan, Cam, Neal & Joe. Think we are the only team to announce 4 players. Id guess wed pick a 5th. I wonder if Leon is trying to pursued Andy. If not maybe Liam, unless Kyle is anywhere near fitness.

Good call, probably the only call though!

Not followed DC all that closely since the format switch. In the old format countries would quite often give a spot on the team to a young upcoming prospect. Has that still been happening much or has the new format made that less likely?

Well, theyve only played it once in 2019 so not a lot to go on, at world finals level at least. But last time Andy and others commented on the brutal schedule and particularly the very late finishes ( 3 am one day) so I all players need to be strong contributors to get on the team.

Not sure what sort of impact this will/might have. No fans I'd imagine is one. But Austria have announced a 20 day lockdown.

The Albert hall has the champions tennis event on the days of the matches in Innsbruck. Move it there!

I think the Austrians have decided that it will be played but with no spectators
