andy's latest comments, from eurosport. (my highlight at the end)
Andy Murray has admitted that he is in a race against time to get fit for Britain's Davis Cup tie with Holland that starts this Friday.
The young Scot is struggling with a groin injury and admits that we won't participate unless he feels fully recovered.
"I enjoy playing for my country but if I'm not fit enough to do it then I don't want to go out and do my country a disservice."
"I did that last year and I won't make the same mistake again. I tried to play when I was still sick and didn't give myself too much help going into the clay court season.
"I'm not 100% fit, I don't know if I'll be 100% fit for the weekend and unless I am 100% fit I won't play."
Murray admits he is not feeling particularly well as things stands and he may make a decision soon rather than later so that his replacement can get used to the idea of playing.
"My groin is not too good. The inflammation in my hip bone is not too bad but I tried practising yesterday and didn't feel good at all. The pain is in my right groin, it's really uncomfortable when I move to wide balls and stretch my legs a lot," he said.
"I don't think it's fair leaving it until the last minute to change your mind and say: 'OK, Jamie Baker, or Richard Bloomfield, you're going to play a singles match.' In that pressure and in front of a big crowd, it's difficult to get your head around it when you're not even in the four-man team to start with."

Interesting that he mentions Jamie B. and Bloomers. It sounds as though there is no intention to play Tim and Greg as the singles if Andy doesn't make it.

No, i dont think so. I read it as Jamie B OR Bloomers. So it would be Tim and one of these two would probably fight it out with Greg for the other singles place.
I agree with eveything you say, but would add just one thing, I think Andy may have realised the error of such a short term view, as he said in one of his recent interviews (can't remember which one) that participating in the Miami semi was unprofessional. In my mind this moderates my concerns a bit, although he still tried to play when injured and took an unnecessary risk.

That's what I meant, my post was a bit ambiguous. I meant that it looked like they were not planning to use both Tim and Greg in the singles, Tim is obviously in (unless he throws another injury, heaven forbid)
At least Andy did 1/2 hour but dont know what it proved, I guess it was the final test for him to make a decision.
Perhaps it's all just a bit of amateur dramatics to fool the Dutch!
"British number one Andy Murray has taken part in his first Davis Cup practice session of the week ahead of the tie with the Netherlands. The 19-year-old's participation in Birmingham remains in doubt because of a groin injury but he was able to train from 1530 to 1800 BST on Wednesday.
The tie begins on Friday and a decision will be made ahead of Thursday's draw. "
