AMS Round 4 - Murray v Mathieu

I'm far from worried. He has reached that stage where players win even when they aren't at their best.

In fact, he hasn't lost a match to a lower ranked opponent since he lost to Hrbaty in Paris.

Great defensive lob from Andy there and then chase to reach the drop shot to force Mathieu into error. 0-30

30 all now. :( Good point for Mathieu first then Andy netted.
40-30 :( Mathieu is being very aggressive and Andy is getting pushed back too far.

Game Mathieu.

Okay Andy - try and hold back to back service games for the first time in the match please.

Andy was kinda hosed on a call there on PHM serve - his winner was called out and it looked to have hit the line. He then puts a good lob over Mathieu who landed on the deck. Mathieu has now went long to make it 30 all.

40-30 Great serve from Mathieu
Game Mathieu - Andy sends his lob long.

Hold again, Andy.

Okay now I'm getting concerned as he falls a set and a break behind.

He seems half-asleep out there and half a second slow on everything. And quiet. At this point I'd expect him to be bellowing at the sky - and that usually helps. Today he's not making noise and he's not playing well. Time is starting to run out.

Don't worry, people. He has come back from worse. He has come back from far worse!

Great point there to get 0-30. Please break back here, Andy.

15-30 - Big serve from Mathieu, return goes long.
30-30 Andy nets in a rally. *bangs head*
40-30 Great work by Andy then misses the easy shot wide to win the point.
Game PHM - Andy nets.

Not happening today. I don't see any way he's going to come back barring lots of help from Mathieu. So many UFES. The wind looks brutal but that's no excuse.

Got lucky there - should be 0-30 down but Mathieu's shot sailed long to make it 15 all instead.

I never imagined a potential 88 point swing to us in the pick em comp could be so disappointing. Hopefully Andy will still find a way to save his website fans and himself!

However, it's highly unusual for a player to reach the semis in IW and then make the quarters in Miami too (about 1 in 10 if I remember right), unless they're riding the high of having actually won IW. So, plenty of good players will have suffered defeats at this kind of stage in Miami before Andy.

Still hope he can turn it round though!
