Andy is just a class above Kendrik and it showed. Very nice performance with some great shots mixed in. Great interview afterwards as well. Nice to see him having a laugh and a joke with Petch.
That's the first time I've seen Andy and Petch interact since the split and it was nice to see no feelings of rancour or unpleasantness on either side. For Petch's part he's been consistently supportive of Andy and never has a bad word to say about him, and it was nice there was a bit of banter and good-natured ribbing between them.
Yup, it was good to see. I think they probably split at the right time and for Andy's part he did say that he wanted to make the split before things got bad between them and it was obviously a good decision for the pair of them. It's good there's no bad feeling there because they seemed really close for a while - perhaps too close in that the coach/player relationship was a bit cloudy and disagreements from a professional standpoint were taken personally.
I know I was a little concerned when the split was first announced, and it clearly contributed to his very poor clay season, coming just before Monte Carlo last year, but my thoughts then were that if it wasn't working, better break it cleanly and put the right arrangements in place before it goes too far off the rails. As we have seen, although there was immediate-term pain, in every other respect so far the decision has paid off spectacularly. Petch, for his part, has been very classy about the whole thing and you can only admire them both for handling a potentially difficult situation with great maturity and circumspection.
