Britain's top junior Graeme Dyce was forced to cut short a planned series of tournaments in South America with a recurrence of his shin splints problems.
Dyce had been in Argentina for just a few days when the injury struck and it severely hampered him during his first round loss and he had to return to Britain.
It was a big blow for Dyce who would have been top seed in several of the remaining tournaments.
Dyce told britishtennis.net "I think that the shin splints were partly caused by the surface change from hard courts to South American clay. The injury was bothering me during the tournaments in Australia at the start of the year but after the Aussie Open it didn't hurt at all until the 3rd day in Argentina. It has been an ongoing thing and caused me to miss large parts of the 2006 season. It was quite quite frustrating as everytime I started hitting the ball well again and feeling good, it would flair up ! I've got a lot of good people behind me this time so hopefully it will be the last time ! I'm currently in rehab at the new centre in Roehampton. I'm not going to play the Luxilon Cup in Miami but am aiming to be back and fully fit in time for the Italian clay-court tournaments in the run up to Roland Garros."
A real shame as he had a great chance of being inside the top 25 or even top 20 at the end of the trip. Hope he'll get back to full fitness soon.
Good to hear that someone is using Roehampton.
The Italian clay tourneys have high cuts and thus there won't be cheap wins, but at times it seems like Dyce has a better record against tougher opposition!
