Pick 'em Contest Indian Wells

Well shock of the night is Youzhny going out to Acasuso in straights. All except RedCabbage had him getting to the fourth round at least and there were quite a lot of quarters/semis and even a final or two.

On the bright side we're all in the same boat (RedCabbage you had grosjean taking Youzhny's place in the quarters so you don't gain any advantage) which means instead of one person leaping ahead we'll all just have relatively low scores in the bottom quarter of the draw.

That shouldn't be possible as it's all being done by formulae this time so less chance of human error however I'll check now for you to make certain (it's possible I put a result in wrong)

Sorry andyjmr, at that point you did only have 20 points...on the bright side you've now got 33

(is it possible that you checked with up to date results and therefore counted a match which hadn't finished when I posted the table?)

I was out for most of last night, so had to take in lots at once this morning.

Happy to see my points score.

That was more than counteracted by Youzhny, one of my semi-finalists, going out. (though it sounds like I'm not the only one who's going to be feeling the effects of that for quite a few rounds more)

Annoyed at myself for having a look at last year's IW results before sending off my entry (the only thing I changed was Srichaphan winning in R1 when I realised he'd got to the semis last year ... he went and lost, so I shouldn't have changed it) - he's going to dive down the rankings now, so I guess he's pretty annoyed at himself too!

Very annoyed at Tigger for getting his serve broken 7 times and throwing away chances to win what should have been a very straightforward match. He obviously learnt far too much from practising with the Boggster last week.

What's been going on while the messageboard was away? Well, it's been a rollercoaster ride for Johnnylad in particular - he started around mid-table, if I remember right.

Soderling beat Bracciali, good for all except RedCabbage

Sheddie's old friend 'bash, whom all but one of us didn't even expect to make it to R2, beat the tea-boy in straight sets, to help johnnylad again! (for shed's benefit, 'Hrbaty' is the genetive of tea in Polish, so it almost certainly means the same in Slovak)

Also, Berdych lost to Russell in straights - that was Johnnylad up to 4th place. Hope he had a double bet on Russell and 'bash with the bookies, the jammy b*st*rd! LOL

Chela beat Bjorkman in 3 and Johnnylad was up to 2nd!

Finally, Falla, whom we ALL had going out in R1 to Becker, took the 1st set against Ljubo, when Ljubo choked away 6 points in a row from 4-1 up in the t/b and then went a break up in the 2nd too. Ljubicic finally prevailed v Falla and Johnnylad (who I assume picked Becker to beat him in R2) went back down to 5th.

Moya beat Stepanek. Johnnylad back down to 8th.

He stayed there when Mathieu beat Fish in a 3rd set t/b which Fish was a m/b ahead in - I had Fish going to R4 -  - and when Andy won (we all got that one!) and when Ferrer won.

Then Korolev beat Tursunov - Johnnylad was back up to 5th and John and Shed joined me in 2nd as seagull opened up a 5 point gap at the top.

Phew!

You're right - it was human error - my error! i had assumed the table you posted at that time was after the completion of the 1st round matches.

... and I might have been ok had cabbage-writer (what Kohlschreiber means in German, sheddie! ) taken one of his countless chances to beat big Dave - he won the 1st set, was a break up in the 2nd but lost it, then a break up in the 3rd but lost it 7-1 in the t/b. Had he won, we'd have had Mathieu v Kohlschreiber in R3 and I don't think anyone was going to get many points out of that!

Now if big Dave beats Mathieu, I'm stuffed.

Arka you may be last at the moment but you've still got a >50% success rate which is pretty good in my opinion.

Robredo lost (I had him getting to R4 ), which meant Johnnylad (who had slipped back to 8th again) bounced back up to 4th - he's just been picking the players he thinks nobody else will pick, hasn't he! LOL I repeat, I hope he's had some bets on all these upsets!

The only result since that table is Hernych beating Calleri, which I don't think affected any of us, because most of us had Tigger winning that match and those who didn't had Calleri.

Safin got bagelled by Mahut in the 3rd - only Mike D got that right.

Fed's in deep trouble against Canas ...

So, it turns out that the Lucky Loser (Canas) wasn't so unlucky after all!

Strangely enough, none of us got any points for him beating Fed!

15 of us had Fed winning the tournament, the other 4 had Andy beating Fed in the SFs and going on to win the Final - JohnnyLad (of course!), Josh, Arka and John.

So, basically, this result is going to make no difference to any of us unless Andy reaches the Final - in which case we'll all be happy anyway.
