Actually I think he'll be a solid top 5 player in the years to come.
That's really impressive, coming from you.
Here's my conversion table:
USM says: "He has the game to be top 300" - Top 100 player in real life. USM says: "I see him making the top 100" - Career high of around 32 and two Tour titles. USM says: "Future top 50 player" - Will crack the top 20 in the next three years. USM says: "Top 10 prospect" - Grand Slam contender. USM says: "He'll be a solid top 5 player in the years to come" - World number one. USM says: "He'll be the world number one" - Greatest of all time.
Hmm.... I agree that David seems to be a bit pessimistic, but if you look closely, he does it for all players in general and not just players he likes. He is more of a hard-to-please-kind. Won't call a player a good prospect unless they are something which resembles perfection very closely. "Mr. Fastidious", maybe?

Hey !
I only wish that conversion table were true with the British players Seriously Arka, you make a lot of predictions based on stats whereas you have to look at the game style aswell and how different players cope with it.
For example...Robin Haase. He's had a lot of success in the past 18 months but I watched him in Rotterdam and I don't rate his chances of being a top 50 player. Has a big serve but he doesn't have much to hurt his opponents in the rallies, stays far behind the baseline and just stays consistent. Doesn't really go for much off his shots, occasionally tees off on his forehand on the mid-court balls but that's mainly after the serve. There are too many power hitters in the top 50 who will just rip him to shreds. Think Andy Murray in early 2006 but without the variety, the anticipation, the returning ability or the ability to unleash spectacular winners from nowhere.
Too soon to say with Del Potro will become a legend of the game when you look at the amount of talent out there at the top at the moment. He's still a work in progress and has a lot of weapons but I'd need to say how his game will match up against the likes of Murray, Djokovic, top 10 guys. He crushed Moya but Moya isn't anything like the same player he was a few years ago and was in a really poor streak at the time. Top 32 looks likely, difficult to see at the moment how much further he can go.
With Sam Querrey I think he will be top 20, I saw that first set against Nadal he played last summer, was a bit like a young Andy Roddick. Nadal just wore him down in the end, but he'd been outplayed for a set and a half. Taking sets off top 10 guys already shows he has a big future.
I'd love it if Andy became no 1 but this Federer geezer is still only 25 and he ain't gonna go away.
This is my Panda conversion table:
Greatest of all time - ranges from top 5 player who will be a contender for slams to solid top 20
Grand slam contender - ditto
Top 20 in the next few years - top 50
top 50 in the next year or so - outskirts of top 100
top 100 - might just do it but will probably spend most of his career at challenger level
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the guy, think he's a great talent and am looking forward to hopefully watching him more this year but that's one heck of a prediction to make !
I've always found even David a bit too optimistic, though I think he's getting better. I haven't seen many of Arka's predictions, because I don't read the junior threads that much (too much else to read) - is he one of those people who thinks 5 different players are going to be world no. 1 at the same time in 5 years?

Hmm.... I never said that he will be better than Nadal. I doubt it. I said that he'll beat him someday and will have a chance of winning Roland Garros, which I stand by.
For that matter, I think that Andy Murray is the real future of clay tennis.

Nope. There'll be just two people - Fed and Andy Murray.

Ah well, that's ok then
Wonder what odds you get on them having the same number of points in around 5 years time and being inseparable on GS/AMS poinjts nad number of tournaments played. Might be worth a punt!

How've I been too optimistic steven ? I stand by my predictions that Mackin and Baker will be top 100, Boggo will be top 75, I doubt Bloomfield will make top 100 but probably top 150, Goodall has the better chance of making it.

I remember having a debate with you about Nadal going down to Del Potro soon. I saw JMDP against Ferrero last year, he could become one of the contenders for RG in the future but his game does seem more suited to hard courts.
I agree, I think Andy has the perfect game to do well on clay. I think he will do really well on there this year, will be v interesting if he plays Federer on the clay, could be close. However, unless Nadal gets injured, he's still going to be the man to beat...if Andy's going to challenge his dominance on clay he needs to get stronger.
