Even he loses early here (which I can't see him doing) I don't think he'd ask for a wildcard into Vegas. He doesn't need the match practise, will be best to take a week to recuperate as he's going to be one of the major contenders in Indian Wells and Miami over the next month...they're back to back masters series and Miami has the same number of rounds as a slam so Andy's going to need to be fresh.
I agree, I think it's good scheduling. There were several times last year when he went into important tournaments physically drained due to competing too much.
Currently ranked 95 with a high of 82 last October he has won several challenger titles and again is the Canadian No 1. Has also taken sets of the likes of Hewit, Gasguet and Roddick.
The highest ranked player he beat last year I think was Guillermo Garcia-Lopez WR77 at the time.
But Tim Henman beat him easily in Tokyo last year and canno see him troubling Andy !
Anyone seen Dancevic play before btw ?
He's been ranked just inside the top 100 for a while now. Divides his time between the ATP and challenger tours. Made 4 challenger finals in 2006 and took a set off Roddick at Queens: won the first set 6-2 !

In the other half of the draw, Xavier Malisse retired a set down to Gabashvili.
Korolev would be an interesting match-up. He's a really good young player and took Gonzo to 4 at the AO and I think he's also beat Davydenko and Moya last year. That would be a good match for Andy - playing someone younger than him and an up and comer to see how he deals with that. I'm not sure if they've met in futures of juniors before?
Andy's never played Korolev before. Yeah it'd be a good match, I saw Korolev play in Bratislava last autumn, was very impressed with his game. Really big serve and forehand, think he'll be top 50 in the next few years. However, he hasn't got the nous and guile in his game to really trouble Andy, to beat him now, you need more than just brute force.

Korolev is the only player in the present Tour who skipped Juniors totally. Played Futures qualies full time since he was 15.

It seems a strange route to take but I guess it has worked for him.
This is an ideal time for me. I'm working backs so I can come in from work and have a late night. Last week's late nights were terrible for me. I had work at 6am!
