I think people think Robredo is a solid player but not flashy, not real major weapons to hurt people with - consistent and good on the defence but not exciting and clearly lacking in the stuff to really hurt the very best.
Djokovic's consistency and greater power off the ground told today though.
It's slim pickings this week anyway - the good thing is to defend, which he's done, gain a couple more, which he's done, then focus on IW and Miami where he could and should gain a ton.
He'll be seeded and should have an easier run for a few rounds.
Agreed - it's now diminishing returns on the International Series events: His 18th result is going to be 75 after this week, so he'll need to make the semis of a tournament to add even a few points, and will need to win them to pull in the 100 or so you need to advance at this end of the table. He's not quite in the Blake/Davydenko league, where those guys really can't get anything from a normal tournament, but he's 4th (after Tursunov, and level with Nieminen) in terms of high 18th scores.
So it's time to convert a number of those first round exits in the mandatory tournaments into Quarter- finals: Rome, Monte Carlo, Miami and Roland Garros. (Only 20 to defend at Indian Wells as well.......could be a good few months!
