ATP San Jose 2007 SF - Murray v Roddick

Andy serving at 76(8) 32

I agree aria, Andy must be hell to play against. Roddick is showing that with some of his shots, trying to shorten the rally and failing. Andy is just so solid and looks like he'd happily rally for days.

15-0, ace out wide
second serve. 15-15, Andy just long ue.
long rally, lots of cross-court. ANdy comes into net, Rod hits the fh passing winner cross-court. poo. 15-30
30-30, Rod nets in the rally.
40-30, ace down the T from Andy. When he gets the first serve in it's super - I'm sure the percentage will increase, it's doing so slowly just needs to be consistent really.
game. lovely winner from Andy.

Roddick serving at 67(8) 24

15-0, Andy nets.
30-0, Rod hits a cross-court fh winner adding a lot of pace. Good shot. gives himself a fist pump.
40-0, Andy stumbles I think, anyways doesn't get to the fh DTL winner from Rodd
game. ace down the T. quick game. Andy jsut needs to stay solid on his own serve ()

Andy serving:

15-0, Rod goes out
30-0, Rod goes out again. Lots of slice from Andy and Rod not great when trying to generate his own pace.
30-15, good approach from Rod and then deep volley into the corner, Andy reaches it but can't control his reply.
second serve. 30-30, lovely bh dtl from Roddick, right in teh corner. good tennis, bad restulst!
second serve. 30-40, Andy goes long. Whacks the ball back in frustration. Come on Andy.
second serve. deuce. super approach from Andy, into the net and puts away the volley. 'that's the volley that will win him wimbledon' apparently! good play at break point donw.
ad ANdy, ace.
game. ace downt eh T not the fastest but pinpoint accuracy.

A little danger there when Roddick came back from 30-0 down to get a BP but some great play from Andy including two aces took care of business and he holds on to go 5-3 up.

Break here, Andy.

15-0, Andy nearly passes Roddick from 6feet behind the baseline. doesn't quite. COmmentator oretty impressed nonetheless.
30-0, return long. good serve.
40-0, stunning return I thought it was going out, Roddick there though. Andy chases everything but Rod gets the winner in the end (Andy practically enters the stands trying to get it back)
40-15, df
game. Andy nets return.

54 Andy about to serve for match. Better than last set please ANdy.

That hold for 5-3 was so impressive. Now serving for the match at 5-4, this is likely to be very tense. (for us!)

Well that was easy on the nerves!

That last point was crazy - perfect net cord lob LOL

Seriously, I've been SO impressed with Andy tonight. Simply brilliant.

Commentator telling me how Andy 'almost lost' in the two previous rounds. We know that Andy's form can change within split seconds so certainly from match to match!

Andy serving for the match at 76(8) 54

15-0. ace down T. 135mph. right on the line.
second serve. nearly another ace. terrible second serve right in middle of the box and pretty slow. 30-0 Rod goes wide.
I'm really not enjoying the fact that the Commentator is crediting all teh tactics and good play from Andy to Giblert. grr.
second serve. 40-0, ue from Rod who nets.
second serve. neraly ace down T. GSM. ends rather tamely as Andy hits a passing shot dtl, catches the tape and it bounces up and over Roddick dropping into court.

run to the net and shake hands, pretty amicably by the looks of things.

Andy Roddick practically runs off court! Andy Murray wins 76(8) 64.

Great news, totally not what I expected.

Americans love him. They would love to have a guy like that with talent and personality. You have to love the combination.

Well goodnight all. Was great to follow the match with you. Hopefully some more of the same tomorrow with both Murray brothers.

My fav was the 'have yourselves a guiness, oh no it's morning time over there isn't it? well have yourselves a guiness anyway'

I can't hear any of the post match interview. anyone able to make out whats being said?

Andy really impressed me this evening. Definitely worth buying the streaming to watch the two Murrays play. Both matches were great to watch and I'm going back to bed a happy bunny.

Night all.

Well how about that then?

Good match from Murray, much more solid off the ground than against Lee, the serve got better as the match wore on and added to Roddick's woes.

Impartially speaking, tactically it was a tired match from Roddick - he looked to me like he retreated into the comfort zone of how he used to play, with the occasional net charge behind often pretty mediocre approaches. So he played much as he did 12 months ago, rather than the new improved "Connors" version we saw more of in Cincy. And the result was the same - Murray tied him in knots and finished him off!

I expected the crowd to get more involved than they did for Roddick but they were very fair - Murray seemed to have plenty of support of his own in fact.

How things will go against Karlovic - the mind boggles.

I'm really happy he's managed to defend at least Final points - that's an excellent effort but I'd love to see him retain the title.

Even if he doesn't - first three events of the year, Final, R4 losing to Nadal in 5, Final. It's not too shabby, eh?
