I'd say that Djokovic was almost certainly Andy's biggest rival. Played him in so many slam finals - obviously won US Open 2012 and Wimbledon 2013, but if he hadn't been there, Andy could easily have 4 Australian Open titles and a Roland Garros to his name.
So many of the most significant victories came over Novak - beating him to win the 2016 Tour Finals and secure year-end no 1 in particular comes to find. Also beat him in Cincinnati 2008 for his first ever Masters title, again in Rome 2016 - that felt like a really significant one for Andy, his first big clay title outside of Madrid.
Overall, of the 21 Masters finals that Andy contested, he played Novak in 10 of them, way more than any other player. Novak was always there.
I don't think that Mr Murray saw Messrs Federer, Nadal and Djokovic as rivals: they were - the three of them - the aspiration. There was undoubtedly a period when he made up the fourth leg of the Big Four, but equally doubtless Mr Murray was only hanging in that group by his fingertips. I think that he wanted - needed - to establish himself alongside the Big Three, and to do that he had to beat rivals such as del Potro and Wawrinka.

Ok, cool - thanks. Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Wimbledon dont really work for me (Edinburgh might but my daughter finishes her degree before June and not sure if she will stay up there or not).
Yes, Radio 5 Live - Russell Fuller - just confirmed this coaching arrangement at least up to and including the Australian Open, and confirmed that it is not April 1st.
Anyone else think this might split opinions on this board ?
Yep.
The April 1st thing was my first reaction.
I'm not sure I get why Andy is doing it, I mean I thought one part of his reason for retiring was spending more time with his family, and it's not like he needs the money.
I can see it from a Nojo point of view, Andy is smart tactically, and was a big rival. Just can't get my head around why Andy wants to do it.
