Is Leon Smith, the guy who coached Murray and Dyce as juniors ?

How's James Chaudry been doing lately ?  Haven't heard much about him since the Aberdeen Cup. Hadn't heard much of him before the Aberdeen Cup either tbh !

Yeah, he must be the same Leon Smith.
The Dan Sanders in charge of the 16s team is one of Cox's former coaches.

Chaudry hasn't played competitive tennis this year. He was due to play qualies in Sweden but didn't turn up.

The team have all played plenty of competitive tennis. It just hasn't been internationally.

Chaudry got to the semis of 2 of the U16 Grand Prix's and didn't play in the other.

Goodall (no relation!) won the first Grand Prix, got to the quarters of the second, and didn't play in the third.

McCulloch has the best record (and is in fact way out in front at No 1 in the National rankings), getting to the semis of the first, winning the second and losing in the final of the third.

Dan Sanders runs the academy at Wrexham, which used to be run by Mike Walker before he moved to Bisham.

It will be interesting to see how they get on in a fairly tough group, where they will not be seeded through lack of ETA/ITF rankings.

????

Just stating the facts. Easily available from LTA website. Also easy to see from ETA/ITF websites the lack of international activity from these players.

I've seen 'em play too. But for the avoidance of doubt, my opinion is worth no more than anyone else's.

Some problem?

Thanks for the info Ratty. How well do you (and Arka and anyone one else with more knowledge of the juniors than me) expect/hope the boys will do?

I really don't know how they will do. They will meet one of the seeds in the first round - likely to be Bulgaria, France, Finland & Germany.

None of those teams looks too terrifying on paper, although at this age for boys there can be meteoric progress as the body settles down (Eysseric, for example), so it may be that there are some unknown demons lurking around. Bulgaria's best player (Dimitrov) is not playing.

So, modestly hopeful .... but lack of international experience could be a big problem.
